Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 17 weeks
Job Description
The Surgical Technologist prepares the Operating Room prior to surgery, promotes patient safety during surgery, assists the surgeon, cares for the patient and surgical instruments throughout the procedure. The role requires knowledge and skills to care for patients of all age groups including neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric.
Travelers may be required to float to multiple units or locations depending on staffing needs.
Requirements
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of scrub experience or equivalent relevant experience required.
- Strong experience in cardiac, thoracic, and transplant surgeries (including heart and lung) is required.
- Experience in ortho trauma, eye, ENT, and neuro is helpful and must be detailed in the resume.
- Profiles without the required experience will not be considered.
Education
- Completion of a surgical technologist program OR
- Minimum 2 years' experience in a Surgical Technologist role may be considered in lieu of formal education.
Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification through the American Heart Association is mandatory.
- National certification for Surgical Tech is preferred but not required.
- Other certifications such as ACLS, PALS, NRP may be required depending on unit assignment.
Licensure
- Must have primary source verification of any required licenses within 30 days of start.
Location Specific
- Traveler’s permanent address must be within 50 miles of the primary work site.
- Parking permit required if parking onsite; alternative transportation options available.

Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background checks including SSN trace, nationwide, sex offender, and state-specific caregiver screening (WI) within 90 days prior to start.
- Education verification required if surgical technologist program was completed.
- Drug screening required per Vaya standard.
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- TB test or chest X-ray
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or titers
- Varicella vaccination or titer
- Hepatitis B vaccination or declination form
- Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (annual requirement)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination
- Meningococcal vaccine or declination (if applicable)
- Facility-specific forms such as communicable disease form, photo for badge, and various exemption forms may be required.
- Telemetry testing and competency exams may be required depending on unit assignment.
Additional Notes
- Return-to-Office (RTO) requests during the contract are not guaranteed.
- Contract length accepted: 17 weeks (within the 17-week range accepted by manager).
- Floating to other units or locations may be required based on staffing needs.
