Job Opportunity: Radiology Technician (Contract)
Position Details
- Specialty: Diagnostic Radiology
- Employment Type: Contractor
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Weekend Rotation: No
- On Call: No
- Holiday Expectations: None
- Shift Call-Out Policy: Must call out at least 2 hours before shift begins
- Scrub Color: Any professional color, no logos
- Parking: Free
Experience Requirements
- Minimum Years of Experience: 2 years (preferably a mix of acute and outpatient experience, but acute is not mandatory)
- Prior Travel Experience: Not a first-time traveler; prior travel experience required
Patient Population & Work Environment
- Patient types range from pediatric to geriatric
- Some patients may be non-mobile and require assistance with positioning
- Common procedures include general X-rays of extremities, chest, head, spine, with a focus on orthopedic patients
- No portable X-rays, fluoroscopy, or OR work involved
Licenses and Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists)
- Illinois IEMA license
Skills and Competencies
- Comfortable working independently and self-directed
- Experience with orthopedic patients and varying degrees of mobility, including non-weight bearing patients
- Ability to assist with patient positioning as needed
Department and Support
- 2 X-ray rooms
- Support staff includes 1 other radiology tech, Patient Service Reps, and a site manager (management not on-site daily but available by phone)
- Medical Assistants from the orthopedic clinic assist with patient transfers to the radiology department; radiology techs transfer patients back if needed
- Emergency protocol involves panic buttons in rooms and calling 911 as there is no on-site code team
Technology and Equipment
- EMR system: EPIC (preferred)
- PACS: GE Centricity
- Equipment: GE overhead X-ray unit, DelMedical floor-mounted unit
Floating
- May float to a nearby orthopedic clinic (approximately 4 miles away)
- Floating assignments given with at least 1 day notice
Orientation
- New Employee Orientation (NEO)
- Additional orientation during the first week on-site
This position is ideal for experienced radiology techs comfortable with orthopedic patients and working independently in a multispecialty clinic setting. Prior travel experience is required.
