Description

Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Jersey City, New Jersey
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Employment Type: Travel/Contract


Job Details

  • Shift:
    • 2x 3pm-11pm + 2x 12pm-12am OR
    • 2x 3pm-11pm + 2x 1pm-1am (to be discussed during interview)
  • Call: 2x per schedule
  • Facility Level: Level 2 Trauma Center
  • Patient Mix: All OR specialties except Open Heart
  • Charting System: EPIC
  • Scrubs Provided

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 2 years of current acute care OR experience (highest requirement)
  • Must be able to Circulate and Scrub
  • Experience required in:
    • Robotic and ENT procedures
    • Orthopedic, vascular, general, thoracic, and neuro surgeries
  • Submit work history with Scrub and Circulate skills checklist
  • BLS certification required
  • First-time travelers accepted (prior travel experience NOT required)

Certifications & Competencies

  • BLS (Basic Life Support): Required for all RNs
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): Required for Adult Critical Care Units, ED, MS/Tele, Outpatient Surgery, PCU, L&D, and preferred for Behavioral Health
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support): Required for ED, Outpatient Surgery, PACU, PICU, and Pediatrics
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program): Required for L&D, Mother-Baby, Newborn, NICU, Nursery, Antepartum, and Special Care Nursery
  • CHEMO Certification: Required as applicable for chemotherapy administration
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring): Beginner and Intermediate levels required for Mother-Baby and Labor & Delivery RNs
  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB): Required for ER, Pediatric ER, and Behavioral Health RNs (includes online and in-person training)
  • NIH Stroke Certification: Required for Adult Critical Care, ED, Telemetry, MS/Tele, Cath Lab, and Labor & Delivery units
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam: Required for all RNs and LPNs
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam: Required for ED, MS/Tele, Telemetry, PCU, Observation Units, IMC, Step-Down, Adult Critical Care, PACU, Cath Lab, and Educators
  • Color Blind Testing: Required within one year of start if job tasks require color discrimination
  • Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication): Required with remediation policy in place

Required Documents & Clearances

  • Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history
  • 2 references within the last 2 years (one managerial)
  • Background checks including criminal, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and state-specific exclusions
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes
  • Physical exam within the last 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease
  • Drug screen within 30 days of start (10-panel urine test)
  • Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (annual requirement)
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity for:
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (MMR)
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
  • Respirator medical clearance and fit test (on-site fit testing mandatory)
  • Latex allergy questionnaire if applicable
  • Facility-specific documents including annual education sign-off, floating policy, vendor medical clearance, and others as required

Additional Information

  • Must complete facility-required orientation and competency exams within specified timeframes
  • Must comply with all facility policies including infection control, medication storage, and behavioral health screening if applicable
  • On-site fit testing and respirator clearance required prior to start
  • Candidates switching between RWJ sites within 30 days may have some documentation accepted from previous assignment
  • Scrubs are provided for this assignment

This is a 13-week travel contract for an Operating Room Registered Nurse in a Level 2 Trauma Center in Jersey City, NJ. The role requires at least 2 years of acute care OR experience with specific surgical specialties including robotic, ENT, ortho, vascular, general, thoracic, and neuro. BLS certification is mandatory, and first-time travelers are welcome. Multiple certifications and competencies are required depending on the unit and patient population.
