Job Opportunity: RRT-NICU (Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics)
Location: Indianapolis, Indiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Respiratory Therapist with Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) experience to work primarily in Labor & Delivery (L&D) with floating to PICU and some Pediatric Acute Care. Candidates must have recent Children's Hospital experience or experience at a level 1 adult facility.
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years NICU experience
- Must have Children's Hospital experience within the last 3 years (level 1 adult facility experience considered)
- L&D experience required (primary assignment)
- NICU or PICU experience required for unit assignment
- Floating to PICU and some Pediatric Acute Care units expected
Licenses & Certifications
- Indiana State License (must be in hand to submit)
- ACLS (AHA only, RQI acceptable)
- BLS (AHA only, RQI acceptable)
- NBRC RRT
- NRP (required for those placed in L&D; traveler can obtain once offered)
- PALS preferred
- Education must be accredited by CoARC and regionally accredited by CHEA
Shift Details
- 3x12 hour shifts
- Every Other Weekend (EOW) required
Prior Travel Experience
- First time travelers accepted (prior travel experience NOT required)
Unit Information
- Primary unit: L&D
- Home unit assignment: NICU, PICU, or Pediatrics (may change based on facility needs)
Facility & Orientation Requirements
- Completion of mandatory RRT modules prior to orientation (21 modules, deadline Friday before start)
- Unit competency exam required
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required (not for Techs or RRTs)
- Color Blind Testing (Ishihara exam or equivalent, 100% minimum score)
- Fit Mask test within 12 months (specific respirators approved)
- Background checks including 7 years residence/work history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
- Physical exam within 12 months
- Drug screening (10 panel, within 12 months)
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B (series, titer, or declination)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (preferred but not required)
- Flu vaccination/documentation required during flu season (declinations NOT accepted)
- TB testing within 1 year (PPD, QuantiFERON, or T-SPOT) with chest x-ray if positive
- Completion of facility-specific compliance and confidentiality forms prior to start
Additional Notes
- IU Health will not allow Indiana RNs to work at their facilities after 11/30/24 except for Periop/OR RN’s, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers. This does not affect Respiratory Therapists.
- Valid Driver’s License or Passport required
- Minimum of 2 professional references from recent employment required
- Employment application must be current and explain any gaps over 30 days
