Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) (Days)

Location: Des Moines, Iowa
Employment Type: Temporary Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Work in a Level 1 Trauma Center with 16 operating rooms, routinely running 12-14 rooms daily.
• Patient types include cardiac/peripheral vascular, neuro, ortho trauma, robotics, gynecology, urology, general surgery, pediatrics, and transplants. Small volume of ENT and plastic procedures.
• Expected patient ratios: 1:1
• Average caseload: 35-50 cases per day with turnovers expected in less than 20 minutes.
• Use of specialized equipment including 3 DaVinci robots, Stealth technology for neuro navigation, and Synthes or Stryker for ortho trauma.
• Scrub or circulate roles preferred; scrub experience including open heart scrubbing highly preferred.
• Weekend call from end of shift Friday until 6:30 AM Monday.
• Floating required across multiple campuses within the system.
• EMR system: EPIC (experience within last 3 years required).

Requirements

• Experience:

  • Minimum 2+ years of current operating room experience (required).
  • Strong proficiency in cardiac, vascular, thoracic, and general surgery (required).
  • Circulating and operating room experience required; scrub experience preferred.
  • Additional experience highly preferred in daVinci robotics, pediatrics, trauma, neurology, orthopedics (primarily trauma), gynecology, urology, transplants, plastics, ENT, and vascular cases.
  • Trauma Level I experience highly preferred.
  • Must have completed at least one prior travel assignment within the last 12 months (no first-time travelers).

• Licensing & Certifications:

  • Active Iowa RN license or compact/multistate license at time of submission (required).
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) BLS certification (required).
  • Valid driver’s license (required).

• Other:

  • Work history/resume must demonstrate 24 months of current operating room experience.
  • Skills checklist specific to operating room nursing (scrub/circulating) required.
  • Professional references from charge nurse, supervisor, nurse manager, director, or equivalent within the last 24 months preferred.
