Job Opportunity: Pediatric OR Registered Nurse

Location: New Brunswick, New Jersey
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking a Pediatric OR Registered Nurse with at least 1.5 years of experience. The role involves working weekends with no on-call duties. Block scheduling requests must be included and approved with the application. Local candidates are accepted.


Key Responsibilities

  • Scrub and circulate during surgeries
  • Support a variety of cases including general surgery, urology, orthopedic, neurosurgery, ophthalmology, advanced ENT, and spine surgeries
  • Scrubs will be provided

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – Required for all RNs
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – Required for Pediatric ER, Pediatric Acute Care, ED, Outpatient Surgery, PACU, PICU, and Pediatrics
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – Preferred but not required
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – Required for L&D, Mother Baby, Newborn, NICU, Nursery, Antepartum, and Special Care Nursery
  • CHEMO Certification – Not required for this role
  • Other certifications may be required depending on specific unit assignments

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 1.5 years of specialty experience as a Registered Nurse in Pediatric OR or related areas
  • No explicit requirement for prior travel experience

Scheduling

  • Weekends required
  • No on-call duties
  • Block scheduling requests must be approved

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Government-issued photo ID and Driver’s License (must be provided within 48 hours of signing)
  • I9 verification
  • E-Verify clearance
  • Criminal background check within 30 days of start (including aliases and all locations lived/worked in past 7 years)
  • Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history
  • Work history verification for at least 1 year prior to start (New Jersey state requirement)
  • References: 2 references within last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference
  • Negative urine drug screen within 30 days of start
  • Physical exam within 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease
  • TB testing and clearance (blood or skin test within 3 months of start)
  • Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (annual requirement)
  • Fit test and respiratory medical clearance (mandatory on-site fit test on first day)
  • Color blindness exam if job tasks require color discrimination
  • Latex allergy questionnaire if applicable
  • Annual education sign-off and facility-specific orientation requirements

Competency & Testing Requirements

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (within 72 hours of signing)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required for applicable units)
  • Pass/Fail Testing for EKG and Medication (with remediation policy)
  • Color Blind Testing (within 1 year)
  • Other competency exams as required by the facility

  • Candidates must be able to scrub and circulate in the OR
  • Scrubs are provided
  • No on-call responsibilities
