Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (IMC / IICU) - South Carolina
Location
- City: Columbia, South Carolina
Position Details

- Unit: Intermediate Intensive Care (IMC / IICU)
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of RN experience within specialty for first-time travelers
- Previous IICU/ICU experience required with patient acuity ratio of at least 1:3
- Must have completed at least 1 prior travel assignment (prior travel experience required)
- Ventilator experience required
- 1 year of EPIC charting experience required
Shift & Scheduling
- Night shift position
- Weekend requirement: 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule period
- Floating required as needed to other qualified units or campuses
- Call-off policy: Facility allows 1 call-off shift per 2 weeks
- Special scheduling requests must be approved at time of booking
Patient Population & Unit Details
- Adult patients including trauma, medical, surgical, and neurology cases
- Patients require monitoring or interventions every 1–2 hours
- Unit receives direct admissions, ICU transfers, and escalations from Rapid Response Teams
- Equipment includes Hercules patient re-positioners, ceiling lifts, and Airtaps
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Certification (check unit requirements)
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., TNCC, ENPC, CPI, MAB) — verify based on assignment
Skills & Competencies
- Proficient in cardiac monitoring and emergency response, including dysrhythmia interpretation and telemetry monitoring
- Medication management including titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
- Experience in ICU or IICU settings required; progressive care settings (PCU, DOU, IMC, Stepdown) considered
- Must pass medication and arrhythmia competency exams (not required for pre-book candidates)
- Annual core competencies and training required (universal precautions, OSHA, TJC National Patient Safety Goals, etc.)
Licensure
- Active South Carolina or multistate nursing license required (no pending licenses accepted)
- NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start date
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet physical demands
- Drug screen within 1 year, updated annually
- Immunizations and titers required: TB test, Hepatitis B, MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Varicella, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap, Flu vaccine or approved exemption
- Respirator fit test completed onsite during orientation
- Background checks including 7-year history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and fingerprinting as applicable
- Annual TB questionnaire required
- Badge photo required prior to start
Orientation & Testing
- Online orientation modules must be completed within 72 hours of assignment
- Pre-assignment testing (medication and EKG/arrhythmia) must be completed within 72 hours of receiving login info; two attempts allowed
- EKG practice test and study guide provided (required for telemetry, critical care, and related units)
Additional Notes
- Facility is a Level I Adult and Level II Pediatric Trauma Center with Magnet recognition for nursing excellence
- Floating is limited to qualified units where competencies are documented
- Prior travel experience is mandatory (at least one completed travel assignment)
- First-time travelers must have 3 years of specialty experience and critical care background
This position is ideal for experienced critical care RNs with prior travel experience seeking a night shift travel assignment in a high-acuity intermediate ICU setting.
