Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – IMC (Intermediate Medical Care)

Location: Sumter, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Shift: Nights
  • Unit: 24-bed IMC (2 West)
  • Patient Population: Adults
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4-5
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Floating: Required as needed to other units or campuses where qualified
  • Call Off Policy: Allowed 1 shift off per 2 weeks
  • Locals Accepted: Yes, with radius rule
  • First-Time Travelers: Not accepted
  • Pending License: Not accepted; must have active South Carolina or multistate license

Experience & Skills Requirements

  • Years of Experience Required: 2 years in specialty (Registered Nurse)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
  • EPIC Charting Experience: Minimum 1 year required
  • Clinical Skills:
    • Neuro stepdown & cardiac telemetry experience
    • IV starts, port access, PICC, central & peripheral line care
    • Blood product administration
    • Respiratory care: trach management, oxygen delivery (nasal cannula, masks, portable O2, HFNC, CPAP/BIPAP), chest tubes, ABG interpretation, non-invasive support
    • GI care: feeding tube management
    • Medication skills: PCA, procedural sedation administration, heparin protocols, managing cardiac and vasoactive drips (no titration)
    • Cardiovascular care: post MI, cardiac caths & angiograms, dysrhythmia management & telemetry monitoring
    • Additional competencies: wound care/wound vac, isolation precautions, renal failure, pre/post hemodialysis, rapid response team use

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA or ARC only, RQI acceptable
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or ARC only, RQI acceptable
  • NIH Stroke Certification
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., TNCC, ENPC, PALS, NRP, CPI, MAB) – check unit specifics

Licensure & Compliance

  • Active South Carolina RN license or multistate license required
  • Primary source verification of license required within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification required showing all licenses authorizing work in SC
  • Background checks including 7-year history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and others as required
  • Drug screening within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • Physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet physical demands
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days of start
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (if working in high-risk areas)
    • Flu vaccine or approved exemption (seasonal requirement)
    • Hepatitis B documentation or declination
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination documentation
  • Respirator fit test completed onsite during orientation

Orientation & Testing

  • Online orientation modules must be completed within 72 hours of assignment
  • Pre-assignment testing (medication and arrhythmia tests) required within 72 hours of receiving login
  • Candidates have 2 attempts to pass tests; failure results in cancellation
  • EKG practice test and study guide provided for telemetry and related units
  • Medication and pharmacology competency exams required annually

Additional Notes

  • All scheduling requests must be submitted and approved at booking
  • Badge photo required prior to start (passport-style, plain background)
  • Floating policy must be signed and renewed annually
  • Facility is a Joint Commission-accredited acute care hospital with a focus on cardiac care, orthopedics, maternity, cancer treatment, and robotic-assisted surgery

This position is ideal for experienced Registered Nurses with strong skills in neuro and cardiac telemetry care, who are comfortable working night shifts in a fast-paced IMC environment and have prior experience with EPIC charting.
