Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (PCU) - Travel/Contract
Location: Monticello, Indiana
Specialty: Med Surg PCU (Progressive Care Unit)
Contract Length: 16 weeks
Position Details
- Years of Experience Required: 1.5 years
- First Timers Accepted: Yes, if they have experience
- Prior Travel Experience Required: No indication of prior travel experience required
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Float Required: Yes (MS/PCU Float ratios of 1:5)
- Locals Accepted: No
- Pending License Accepted: No, must have Indiana state license and required certifications in hand before starting
- RTO Restrictions: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- Shift Details:
- 8 and 10 hour shifts totaling 40 hours per week
- 3 shifts of 12 hours totaling 36 hours per week
- 4 shifts of 12 hours totaling 48 hours per week
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit (PALS, NRP, CHEMO, TNCC, EFM, NIH Stroke Certification) - verify per assignment
Special Requirements / Skills
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Use of Rapid Response Teams
- Peripheral Line Care/Management
- Oxygen delivery methods: Nasal Cannula, Oxygen face masks, Portable Oxygen tank
- Non-invasive airway management
- Isolation Precautions

Licensure & Documentation Requirements
- Valid Indiana RN license required (no pending licenses accepted)
- Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
- Background checks including:
- 7 years residence/work history verification
- SSN Trace, County Criminal, Statewide, National Sex Offender, FACIS Level III
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Education verification and official transcripts/diplomas required
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required
- Unit competency exam required
- Color Blind Testing (Ishihara or equivalent) with 100% minimum score
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 12 months (approved respirators only)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Immunizations or positive titers required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B (series, titer, or signed declination)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap preferred but not required
- Seasonal Flu vaccination/documentation required (no declinations accepted)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months
Additional Notes
- Must complete facility-specific compliance and orientation documents prior to start
- Must be willing to float within MS/PCU units
- Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- IU Health will not allow Indiana RN travelers to work at their facilities after 11/30/24 except for Periop/OR RN’s, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers (Periop includes ENDO, IR RN, PACU, Cath Lab RN, SDS)
This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse with at least 1.5 years of Med Surg PCU experience, who is comfortable with float assignments and working holiday shifts in a short-term acute care setting.
