Job Opportunity: Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - Travel/Contract
Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Facility Type: Academic Level 1 Trauma Center
Job Details
- Shift: Evening/Nights (1900-0730, 2300-0730, 1500-2330)
- Schedule: Every other weekend rotation, holidays, and 1 call shift every 6-week scheduling period
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years experience as a staff Respiratory Therapist (higher value confirmed)
- Experience in both pediatric and adult respiratory care preferred
- Prior travel experience highly preferred (not strictly required but strongly favored)
- Must have experience working in an Academic Level 1 Trauma Center or similar large hospital
Education & Licensure
- Graduate of a Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) accredited Respiratory Therapy program required
- Licensed as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) in Wisconsin upon hire
- Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) required
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential by NBRC required
- BLS certification through the American Heart Association required
Job Responsibilities
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality patient care
- Administer aerosolized medications, volume expansion, airway clearance techniques, tracheostomy care, and sputum inductions
- Manage non-invasive ventilation, high flow oxygen, and mechanical ventilation in Intermediate Care (IMC) and ICU settings
- Work closely with physicians, nurses, and other care team members to develop, implement, and evaluate patient care plans

- Floating required: may be assigned to multiple units or locations depending on staffing needs
- Traveler’s permanent address must be within 50 miles of the primary work site

Certifications & Compliance Requirements
- BLS (American Heart Association)
- ACLS, PALS, NRP certifications as applicable (check unit-specific requirements)
- State license verification and national certification verification required within 30 days of start and upon expiration
- Facility-specific competency exams and medication/pharmacology tests as applicable
- Pass/Fail Telemetry testing required for applicable specialties
- Background checks including criminal, caregiver screening, and education verification required
- Drug screening required per Vaya standard
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- TB test or chest X-ray
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or exemption
- Varicella vaccination or exemption
- Hepatitis B vaccination or declination form
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption
- Other vaccines as required by department (e.g., Meningococcal for Microbiology)
Additional Requirements
- Completion of facility-specific forms such as communicable disease, flu exemption, and caregiver screening
- Photo for badge issuance required prior to start
- Annual renewal of certain certifications and competency exams may be required during assignment
Summary
This travel Respiratory Therapist position offers the opportunity to work in a top-ranked academic Level 1 Trauma Center with a dynamic interdisciplinary team. Candidates must have at least 2 years of respiratory therapy experience, be licensed and credentialed appropriately, and preferably have prior travel experience. The role involves critical care responsibilities including ventilator management and airway care in ICU and IMC settings, with a rotating evening/night schedule and floating across units as needed.
