Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Step Down Unit)

Location: Amarillo, Texas
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work in Intermediate Care (IMC) and Med/Surg (MS) units.
  • Expected to care for general Med/Surg patients as needed.
  • Unit is a mix of med/surg and intermediate care patients.
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio ranges from 1:4 to 1:6 depending on shift assignment.
  • Shift options: 36 or 48 hours, Days.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience preferred.
  • Prior travel experience not required.
  • Epic electronic health record experience required.

Travel Requirements

  • No local candidates accepted.
  • Must be willing to travel within a 50-mile radius.

Certifications Required (as applicable)

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • CHEMO (Chemotherapy certification)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB)
  • NIH Stroke Certification
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute)

Licensure and Verification

  • Primary source online verification of state nursing license required.
  • NURSYS verification required for RN licenses.

Background and Compliance Checks

  • 7-year background check within 1 year of start, updated annually.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required upon hire.
  • Education verification required (transcript or diploma may be accepted temporarily).
  • Fingerprinting required for New Mexico placements (not applicable here).

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start.
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start, renewed annually.
  • Adult Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years.
  • Negative TB test (2-step PPD, QGOLD, or TSPOT) within 1 year.
  • TB questionnaire required annually if positive TB test.
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required.
  • Hepatitis B: Positive titer, series, or declination accepted.
  • Varicella: Positive titer, 2 vaccines, or physician-documented history required.
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31).
  • COVID-19 vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required.

Competency Requirements

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (80% passing or meet Angoff score).
  • Color Blind Testing (online version accepted).
  • Competency exams as applicable to profession (minimum 80% passing).
  • Annual completion of Core Parts I, II, and III for subcontractors.

Additional Requirements

  • Clear headshot photo for badge.
  • Complete employment application/resume required.
  • Unit-specific skills checklist required annually.
  • 7-year work history verification required.

This position offers a challenging and rewarding opportunity to work in a mixed med/surg and intermediate care environment with a supportive nurse-to-patient ratio and flexible shift options. Epic experience is mandatory, and a minimum of 2 years nursing experience is preferred. Prior travel experience is not required.
