Job Opportunity: RN (Registered Nurse) – Oncology Acute

Unit & Patient Care Details

• Unit Type: Oncology Acute
• Beds: 19 private beds
• Patient Types: All cancer types (most common Lymphoma and Leukemia), Hematology, medical patients, radiation oncology, and Gyn/Onc patients
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:

  • Days: Typically 1:5 (can vary 1:4-5)
  • Nights: Typically 1:6 (can vary 1:5-6)
  • 1:1 staffing for specific medications/therapies as needed
• Charge Nurse: Present 24/7, usually does not take patient assignments but may occasionally
• House Supervisor: Present 24/7
• Patient Care Techs (PCTs):

  • 3 PCTs from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM
  • 2 PCTs from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM

Certifications & Experience Requirements

• Required Certifications:

  • BLS (AHA)
  • ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate
• Experience:

  • Experience with IV chemotherapy and immunotherapy regimens and administration
  • Knowledge of handling chemotherapy precautions (PPE) and monitoring medication side effects

Clinical & Technical Details

  • House-wide telemetry system (Phillips monitors)
  • RNs do not interpret telemetry strips

Scheduling & Work Environment

• Shift Length: 12-hour shifts
• Shift Times: 7:00 AM or 7:00 PM start
• Scheduling:

  • Flexible based on unit needs (may split contract between days and nights or nights only)
  • Self-scheduling with coordination for time-off requests
  • Schedule finalized every 6 weeks
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (Days: Sat/Sun; Nights: Fri/Sat)
• Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday
• Call/Standby: None
• Floating: Travelers participate in float rotation; floating shifts are 4+ hours and assigned fairly
• Scrub Color/Dress Code: No specific scrub color required; scrubs not provided
