Job Opportunity: SLPA Inpatient Rehab
Location: Holyoke, Massachusetts
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 14 weeks
Position Overview
Seeking an experienced Speech Pathologist for a full-time contract assignment in an inpatient rehab setting. The role follows a 5x8 day schedule (9:00 AM – 5:30 PM) with alternating weekend coverage. Work within a supportive team environment at a community hospital.
Work Schedule & Environment
- Schedule: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM
- Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend, 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM (Saturday/Sunday)
- Call Required: Yes
- Patient Age Group: Adults & Geriatrics
- Average Daily Census: 15 patients
- Beds: 180
- Patient Diagnoses: Stroke, Infectious Respiratory Disease, and others
- Unit Systems: Pyxis (Medication), Meditech Expanse (Documentation), Tiger Text
- Provider Support: Interpretation Services, Respiratory Services, Unit Secretary
Required Certifications & Licenses
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- CCC-SLP (Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology)
- MBSImP (Modified Barium Swallow Impairment Profile)
- Massachusetts State License
Experience Requirements
- Specialty: Therapy/Rehabilitation (Speech Pathology)
- Minimum Years of Experience: 1 year
- Prior Charge Experience: Required
- Patient Ratio Experience: 1:15
- Community Hospital Experience: Required
- Teaching Hospital Experience: Preferred
Clinical Skills & Responsibilities
- Work Settings: Acute Care, Adult Outpatient
- Adult Dysphagia Management including:
- Bedside Swallow Evaluation
- International Dysphagia Diet
- Modifying Diet Orders
- Use of Thickening Agents
- Patient Safety Awareness: Recognize signs and symptoms of physical, sexual, and psychological abuse
- Billing and Documentation:
- Assessment
- Concurrent Therapy Documentation and Treatment
- Discharge Planning
- Evaluation and Plan of Care
- Point of Service Documentation
- Reassessments

- Unit accepts first-time travelers
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B
- Varicella
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Drug screening: 10-panel within 1 year
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination required during flu season (Oct 1 - Apr 30)
- Background checks including Massachusetts statewide iCORI clearance and others as required
- Pass/fail competency testing (EKG/Medication) required before orientation
