Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (MS/Tele) - Travel/Contract

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Contract Length: 16 weeks


Job Summary

  • Work primarily nights in a corrections health unit serving Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections inmates.
  • Float between Oncology Medical-Surgical (MS) and Progressive Care Unit (PCU) as needed.
  • Oncology experience preferred but not required.
  • EPIC charting experience is required.
  • Ensure staff safety in a secure, locked corrections environment.

Patient Population & Care

  • Patients include those with active oncology diagnoses/treatments (solid tumors, hematology), oncology workup admissions, history of cancer admitted for other reasons, and non-oncology diagnoses such as COPD, sepsis, pneumonia, etc.
  • Nurse to patient ratio: 1:3 in PCU, 1:4-5 in MS.
  • Cardiac monitoring and telemetry management required.
  • Care includes IV insulin protocols, feeding tube management, pre/post hemodialysis care, blood product administration, central/peripheral line and PICC line management, starting IVs, and management of cardiac drips (no titration).
  • Respiratory care includes CPAP/BIPAP, High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), ABG interpretation, tracheostomy management, and non-invasive airway management.

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only (Instructor/Provider and RQI acceptable).
  • ACLS may be required depending on unit (check unit-specific requirements).
  • Other certifications such as PALS, NRP, EFM may be required for specific units but not specified for this role.

  • Health documents required: Physical exam, immunizations (Tdap, MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B), TB test or questionnaire, flu vaccination or declination during flu season.
  • Annual background and compliance checks including EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring.
  • Required to complete medication and unit-specific competency exams, including Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam annually.

Additional Requirements

  • Must complete orientation safety manual acknowledgement annually.
  • Must provide 2 professional references, including at least one from a manager or formal leadership.
