Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Ortho) - Travel/Contract
Location: Burlington, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (Ortho)
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Shift: 3x12 hour shifts, Nights (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Schedule: Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday)
- No call required
- Float to other units as needed
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required
- Charge RN experience required
- First-time travelers are welcome (no prior travel experience required)
Unit Description
- 29-bed unit caring for adults through geriatrics
- Patient population includes orthopedic patients (total joint replacements, fracture repairs, kyphoplasties) and medical-surgical patients
- Telemetry monitoring available
- Unit includes a physical therapy gym for patient rehab without leaving the unit
- Moderate to high patient volume
Certifications & Licenses Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC certified
- Charge RN experience required (implies leadership skills)
- Pass/Fail EKG exam required for all RNs (must score 82% or higher, 2 attempts allowed)
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit (verify with program management):
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - may be preferred
- NIH Stroke Certification - required for Cardiac Progressive Care, MS/Tele units
- State RN license verification required (primary source verification within 30 days of start)
- NURSYS verification required within 60 days of start
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License/State ID)
- Social Security Card (for badge issuance)
- Background check within 60 days covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years, including aliases, national criminal search, federal court, sex offender registry, FACIS Level 3, education verification
- Foreign equivalency evaluation if education obtained outside the U.S.
- Transcript/Diploma for highest education level (if applicable)
- Education verification: Associate’s degree in nursing or higher required
- High School Diploma/GED verification as applicable
- Drug testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 40 days of start
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (adult vaccine proof required)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 6 months
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - positive titer or 2 vaccines required
- Hepatitis B titer or declination
- Varicella - positive titer or 2 vaccines required
- Seasonal Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required
- Fit mask test (N95) completed within current calendar year and updated annually
- Physical exam (if applicable)
- References: 2 supervisory references required from recent assignments (within 12 and 24 months)
- Employment application/resume with 7-year work history
- Work history verification for last 5 years through third-party vendor
- Annual skills checklist with a one-week grace period for renewal
Additional Job Details
- Zero-tolerance policy for tardiness and unexcused absences
- Candidate must be flexible with scheduling
- Floating to other units as needed
- Pass/Fail EKG exam required regardless of specialty
- Candidate must complete Cone Health’s Health History Form and other facility-specific documents prior to clearance
- Badge photo must meet strict facility requirements (no selfies, solid color background, business casual or uniform attire, forward-facing pose)
