Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Ortho) - Travel/Contract
Location: Burlington, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (Ortho)
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Schedule: 3x12 hour shifts, nights (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Work every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday)
- No call required
- Float to other units as needed
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience
- Charge RN experience required
- First-time travelers are welcome (no prior travel experience required)
Unit Description
- 29-bed unit caring for adults through geriatrics
- Patient populations include orthopedic patients (total joint replacements, fracture repairs, kyphoplasties), medical-surgical patients, and telemetry monitoring
- Unit includes a physical therapy gym for patient rehab without leaving the unit
- Moderate to high patient volume with various surgical and medical cases
Certifications & Licenses Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC certified
- Charge RN experience required (implies leadership skills)
- Pass/Fail EKG exam required for all RNs
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit (verify with program management if unclear)
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License/State ID)
- Social Security Card (for badge issuance)
- Background check within 60 days covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
- Education verification (Associate’s degree in nursing or higher required)
- Transcript/Diploma as proof of highest education
- Foreign equivalency evaluation if education obtained outside the U.S.
- NURSYS verification within 60 days of start
- Employment application/resume with 7-year work history
- Work history verification for last 5 years through a third-party vendor
- Two supervisory references required (one within 12 months, one within 24 months)
- Annual skills checklist with a one-week grace period for renewal
- Facility-specific documents including health history form, floating policy, contractor equipment acknowledgement, and dress code acknowledgment
- Badge photo meeting strict facility requirements (no selfies, solid color background, business casual or uniform attire)
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam (if applicable) within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test (annual, specific approved N95 respirators)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 40 days of start
- Immunizations/vaccinations required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (adult vaccine proof required)
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or 2 MMR vaccines)
- Hepatitis B (titer or declination with boosters if needed)
- Varicella (positive titer or 2 vaccines)
- Seasonal Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (must be on file by 10/20)
- TB testing: Negative Qgold/TSPOT within 6 months or chest x-ray if positive history
- TB Questionnaire within 30 days of start and updated annually
Testing & Competency Exams
- Pass/Fail EKG/Dysrhythmia exam required for all RNs (except Behavioral Health and Case Managers)
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (score 80% or higher)
- Color Blind Testing (online) as applicable
- Competency exams as applicable to specialty/profession
Additional Notes
- Candidate must be flexible with scheduling and aware of zero-tolerance policy for tardiness and unexcused absences
- Compliance deadlines are strict; all documentation must be completed prior to start
- Floating to other units may be required
- Prior travel experience is not required for this position
