Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - Progressive Care Unit (PCU)

Location: Hilo, Hawaii
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit and Patient Care Details

  • Unit: Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
  • Unit Size: 15 beds total
    • 3 Step-down ICU beds
    • 12 telemetry beds
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio:
    • 1:4 in Progressive Care
    • 1:3 in Step-down ICU
  • Shift: Scheduled 36 hours per week after orientation
  • No call required
  • Floating: Yes, may float to Medical, Surgical/Pediatrics, ICU, and ER units

Job Responsibilities

  • Primary nursing care
  • Telemetry monitoring and strip reading
  • Fingerstick blood sugar testing
  • Use of equipment such as Meditech charting system, Pyxis medication system, BIPAP, and continuous cardiac monitoring

Licensure and Certifications

  • Must have an active Hawaii nursing license by start of assignment
  • ACLS preferred
  • Current PALS preferred
  • NIHSS certification preferred

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience (based on specialty years of experience interpretation)
  • At least 1 year of hospital acute care experience within the last year
  • Progressive Care and telemetry experience preferred
  • Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required

Additional Information

  • Must arrive the Thursday before start date for employee health appointment on Friday
  • Dress code: Scrubs
