Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – Med/Surg Telemetry (Travel/Contract)

Location: Akron, Ohio
Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Requirements

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse – Med/Surg Telemetry
  • Experience: Minimum of 18 months recent permanent Med/Surg Telemetry experience prior to travel
  • Licensure: Must have a permanent Ohio nursing license or a compact state license in hand
  • Certifications:
    • AHA BLS (Basic Life Support) required
    • AHA ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) required
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID) must be carried on assignment
  • Background checks including:
    • FCRA compliant 7-year search
    • SSN Trace
    • Nationwide and state criminal checks
    • National Sex Offender Registry
    • Education verification
  • Fingerprinting (BCI and FBI) must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing and updated annually
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, including Snellen eye exam (required for new candidates starting 4/11/2025 or later)
  • Fit mask test (N95) within 12 months of start and updated annually
  • Immunizations and health requirements:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccinations or positive titers
    • Hepatitis B vaccination or titer
    • Varicella vaccination or titer
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (required during flu season)
  • Drug screening: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted)
  • References: 2 references from employment within 1 year of start, from a manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director (co-worker references not accepted)
  • Employment application must include 3 years prior work history with at least 2 years clinical practice in an acute care setting similar to the assignment

Certifications & Competencies

  • Annual renewal of certifications and competencies required, including:
    • ACLS and BLS (must be current at start)
    • Unit-specific competency exams
    • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
    • Pass/fail EKG and medication testing during orientation (not required for legacy candidates with less than 6-month gap between contracts)
  • Orientation and onboarding modules must be completed prior to start (typically takes multiple days)
  • Annual safety manual acknowledgement and pass/fail testing required

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must complete all onboarding modules on a computer using Google Chrome; modules cannot be completed on a phone
  • Fingerprinting results must be received prior to contract extension; candidates may start with results pending if fingerprinting is completed before start
  • Physical exam and eye exam do not need to be updated annually if currently on assignment without a break in employment
  • Candidates with gaps longer than 40 days between assignments must meet all health and physical exam requirements again
  • Facility accommodates latex allergies; notification required to ensure latex-free supplies are available
