Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (MS/Tele Float) - Columbus, Ohio

Position Details

  • Shift: Nights (Day/Night option available)
  • Unit: Clinical Resource Unit - Oncology/Med Surg Telemetry Float
  • Facility Type: Comprehensive Cancer Center with 318 acute care beds, specialized inpatient oncology units

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2+ years of high acuity Med Surg Telemetry level or higher experience required
  • Oncology experience preferred but not required
  • No explicit prior travel experience required

Unit Details & Patient Population

  • Floating between Med Surg Telemetry and Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Oncology units
  • Patient populations include:
    • Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT)
    • Acute Leukemia
    • Hematology
    • Medical Oncology
    • PCU Oncology
    • Gynecological Oncology
    • Urology
    • Colorectal
    • Surgical Oncology
    • Corrections Healthcare
  • Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention

Staffing Ratios

  • PCU: 1:3, can be 1:4 with mixed acuity
  • Med Surg Telemetry: ideally 1:4, can be 1:5

Orientation & Scheduling

  • First week orientation: Monday to Friday, dayshift
  • Five shifts of bedside orientation between weeks 2 and 3
  • Self-scheduling requests allowed; no set/blocked scheduling as permanent staff have
  • Weekends variable based on unit needs

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • NIH Stroke Scale Certification (NIHSS)

Competency Requirements

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required prior to start)
  • Unit-specific competency exams
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required within 1 year of start, updated annually)

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific)
  • Education accreditation verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, NLN CNEA, or CASN)
  • License verification within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification for RN licenses
  • Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year (or TB questionnaire)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12)
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters if low titer
  • Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemptions reviewed
  • Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination with mask requirement during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene)
  • COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended

Additional Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Dress code and hand hygiene policy acknowledgment
  • Confidential Fraud, Waste, Abuse, and Compliance Reporting training and acknowledgment
  • Ethics and compliance policies review and acknowledgment annually
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgment annually

References and Documentation

  • Two professional references required; at least one from a manager or formal leadership
  • Employment application and skills checklist required
