Registered Respiratory Therapist

Location: Robinson, Illinois
Employment Type: Contract

Job Summary

Provide cardiopulmonary care services according to physician orders and department policies. Assess, treat, and care for patients with breathing disorders. Perform therapeutic procedures, maintain patient records, and operate respiratory care equipment.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform accurate and complete respiratory assessments, including initial screenings and pain assessments tailored to age, culture, and psychosocial factors.
• Determine treatment requirements such as therapy type, method, duration, precautions, medications, and dosages in line with physician orders.
• Develop and evaluate patient/family teaching plans related to pain management and discharge instructions.
• Monitor physiological responses to therapy (vital signs, arterial blood gases, blood chemistry) and consult physicians if adverse reactions occur.
• Prepare and administer respiratory medications, demonstrating knowledge of outcomes and side effects.
• Conduct cardiopulmonary tests (holter monitoring, cardiac monitoring, lung capacity tests) and adjust equipment for optimal therapy results.
• Maintain and clean respiratory equipment regularly; assist with calibration and ensure proper documentation.
• Ensure complete, accurate, and timely documentation in electronic and paper records.
• Follow safety procedures to maintain a safe environment and reduce healthcare errors.
• Participate in performance improvement activities.

Required Certifications / Licenses

• Current Illinois Respiratory Therapist License
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 1 year of Respiratory Therapy experience (preferred)

Additional Skills

• Strong computer skills, including EMR navigation
• Ability to work independently, prioritize, and complete tasks timely
• Excellent communication and customer service skills
