Description
Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – IMC (Cardiac Telemetry)
Location: Sumter, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Summary
- Work nights on a 24-bed Intermediate Medical Care (IMC) unit (2 West)
- Patient population: Adults requiring neuro stepdown and cardiac telemetry care
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4-5
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
- Floating required as needed to qualified units/campuses
- Charting system: EPIC (1 year experience required)
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of Registered Nurse experience in specialty
- Experience specifically in neuro stepdown and cardiac telemetry required
- Skills required:
- IV starts, port access, PICC, central & peripheral line care, blood product administration
- Respiratory care including trach management, oxygen delivery (nasal cannula, masks, portable O2, HFNC, CPAP/BIPAP), chest tubes, ABG interpretation, non-invasive support
- GI care including feeding tube management
- Medication administration including PCA, procedural sedation, heparin protocols, cardiac and vasoactive drips (no titration)
- Cardiovascular care including post-MI, cardiac caths & angiograms, dysrhythmia management & telemetry monitoring
- Additional competencies: wound care/wound vac, isolation precautions, renal failure, pre/post hemodialysis, rapid response team participation
Required Certifications
- Active South Carolina or multistate RN license (no pending licenses accepted)
- ACLS (American Heart Association or ARC only; RQI acceptable)
- BLS (American Heart Association or ARC only; RQI acceptable)
- NIH Stroke Certification
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit assignment (e.g., TNCC, ENPC, PALS, NRP) – verify based on unit specifics
Additional Requirements
- Prior travel experience: Not accepted for first-time travelers (prior travel experience required)
- Background checks including 7-year history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and others as per facility policy
- Drug screening within 1 year of start, updated annually
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet job demands
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 90 days of start
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine (if working/floating in high-risk areas)
- Flu vaccine or approved exemption (seasonal requirement)
- Hepatitis B documentation or declination
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) and Varicella immunity or vaccination
- Respirator fit test completed onsite during orientation
- Completion of online orientation modules and pre-assignment testing within 72 hours of assignment
- Medication and arrhythmia competency testing required prior to start
- Floating policy acknowledgment required
Scheduling and Policies
- Call-off policy: Facility allows 1 call-off shift per 2 weeks
- Scheduling requests (RTO, block, special) must be submitted with application and approved by facility
- Locals accepted with radius rule applied

Summary
This travel RN position requires a minimum of 2 years of experience in neuro stepdown and cardiac telemetry nursing, with strong skills in IV therapy, respiratory care, cardiac monitoring, and medication administration. Candidates must have prior travel experience and hold an active SC or multistate RN license. Certifications including ACLS, BLS, and NIH Stroke Certification are mandatory. The role involves night shifts with every other weekend coverage and floating as needed. Compliance with extensive background checks, health screenings, and facility-specific training/testing is required.
