Description
Job Opportunity: Medical Laboratory Technician (MT/MLT)
Location: Winnebago, Nebraska
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 16 weeks
Position Overview
- Perform laboratory testing in a small rural hospital lab setting.
- Work schedule: 7 on / 7 off, Wednesday to Tuesday during work weeks.
- Shift hours: 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM (12-hour overnight shifts).
- Work every other weekend during scheduled work weeks; holidays worked if scheduled.
- Overtime earned after 80 hours per pay period.
- Must manage workflow independently during overnight shifts.
- Ability to multitask, adjust priorities, and respond to codes and traumas is essential.
- Skilled in specimen acquisition and routine phlebotomy.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform analyses, tests, and procedures to assist in disease prevention, diagnosis, or treatment.
- Accession and order tests in Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).
- Process specimens and refer to reference laboratories as needed.
- Operate, maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
- Maintain documentation per regulatory agencies and laboratory policies.
- Adhere to sterilization and infection control procedures due to regular exposure to infectious specimens.
- Provide excellent customer service.
- Work independently with minimal supervision.
Required Qualifications
- Education & Certification:
- Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT): Associate degree from an approved Medical Technology/Laboratory Science program and certification/registration by MLT(ASCP), MLT(AMT), or CLT(NCA).
- Medical Technologist (MT): Bachelor’s degree from an approved Medical Technology/Laboratory Science program and certification/registration by MT(ASCP), MT(AMT), or CLS(NCA).
- Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience preferred.
- Knowledge of hospital laboratory practices, infection control, chemical and biological hazards.
- Familiarity with governmental and regulatory policies and standards.
- Ability to work independently overnight and handle multiple priorities.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
Physical & Cognitive Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 10 lbs.
- Regularly walk, stand, and sit for extended periods.
- Use hands for computer keyboard and office equipment.
- Reading, writing, and calculation skills required.
- Above average social interaction skills.
- Reasoning and analytical skills.
Additional Notes
- Must comply with criminal records check requirements related to child abuse and violent felonies.
