Description

Job Opportunity: Certified OR Tech / Surgical Tech (CST)

Location: Columbia, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Surgical Services (OR CST)
  • Shift: 4x10 hour days, 6:45 AM – 5:15 PM
  • On-Call: Yes, 1 call per week plus 1 late shift, and 1 to 2 weekends every 6 weeks (may change based on staffing needs)
  • Weekend Requirement: 1 to 2 weekends every 6 weeks (covered in call requirement)
  • Floating: Yes, may float between service lines and possibly to sister facilities

Required Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience required (3+ years preferred)
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA certification only
    • NBSTSA certification required (NCCT not accepted)
  • Radiation Badge: Required and must be provided by the agency (facility does not provide)
  • First-timers: Not accepted (must have prior experience)

Additional Requirements & Information

  • Background Check:
    • Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years
    • Must include SSN trace, county checks outside SC, SC statewide, sex offender registry, national criminal, OFAC, FACIS 3, employment and education verification
  • Licensure: Must have appropriate state licensure for the role (South Carolina license required)
  • Education Verification: Required; diploma or transcripts may be used as placeholders if verification is pending
  • References: Proof of 2 clinical references required, including at least one from the same unit
  • Skills Checklist: Must be updated annually
  • Physical Exam: Must be current within 90 days of start, attesting ability to meet physical demands without restrictions
  • Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen required within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
  • Immunizations & Health:
    • Tdap within 10 years or declination form required
    • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days of start or proof of prior positive with chest x-ray
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titers or 2 vaccines required (boosters if low titer)
    • Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
    • Flu vaccine required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30) or medical/religious exemption (no declinations accepted)
    • COVID vaccines highly preferred; if declined, must complete vaccination declination form
  • Respirator Clearance: Annual medical clearance required via RespSafety questionnaire
  • Radiation Badge: Required for this role; candidates cannot start without it
  • Photo for Badge: Passport-style photo with solid light background, frontal view, shoulders up, no hats or sunglasses

Scheduling & Other Notes

  • Block Scheduling: Possible with manager approval
  • Local Radius: 60 miles
  • Locals Accepted: Yes, at a reduced rate
  • Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks; called off hours can be broken down but total no more than 1 shift
  • Hurricane Season: Travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams during June-November; peak months August-September
