Job Opportunity: Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT/MLS)

Location: Carbondale, Illinois

Job Description

• Support and communicate laboratory initiatives and philosophies.
• Collect, process, and receive specimens (blood, urine, fecal, body fluid) for analysis across all clinical laboratory departments.
• Evaluate and solve problems related to specimen collection and processing for all age ranges.
• Participate in evaluating new laboratory techniques and procedures, considering personnel, equipment, cost, and reference intervals; write and revise technical procedures.
• Perform complex laboratory procedures, recognize deviations from expected results, and analyze and correct problems using scientific principles.
• Analyze quality control data, make judgments on results, and take appropriate actions to maintain accuracy and precision.
• Respond to inquiries regarding test results, methodology, test specificity and sensitivity, and factors influencing test results.
• Review instrument indicators and temperature monitors for laboratory departments.
• Maintain self-competency in laboratory skills.

Required Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's degree (or Associate’s degree for grandfathered personnel) in a related field.
• Licensure/Certification: CLS or MT (ASCP) or equivalent certification.
• New Medical Technologist graduates must pass the certification exam within 6 months of employment start date.
