Job Opportunity: Histotechnologist

Location: Janesville, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 12 weeks

Job Summary

• Prepare histologic slides and tissue sections for microscopic examination and diagnosis by Pathologists.
• May work at multiple facilities performing the same functions as needed.
• Work alternate shifts, weekends, and holidays to ensure adequate service coverage.
• Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Use Information Systems to receive samples, order tests, respond to nurses and physicians, document quality control, and generate reports.
• Confirm accuracy of patient sample identification and evaluate specimen quality; document quality issues.
• Prepare human tissue sections for immediate examination using rapid tissue processing and frozen section techniques.
• Operate tissue processing equipment to fix, dehydrate, and infiltrate tissue specimens with wax for preservation.
• Perform tissue sectioning with microtome, prepare slides, stain, and coverslip.
• Conduct special and immunohistochemical stains and procedures as needed.
• Perform gross examination on designated specimens under Pathologist direction.
• Maintain filing systems and records for slides, blocks, and tissues.
• Perform daily preventative maintenance on equipment.

Required Qualifications

• Must be qualified to perform high complexity testing according to CLIA 493.1489 Standard.
• ASCP certification required.
• Must have MOHs and grossing experience.
• Flu and COVID vaccinations required.
