Job Opportunity: Histotechnologist
Location: Janesville, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 12 weeks
Job Summary
- Prepare histologic slides and tissue sections for microscopic examination and diagnosis by Pathologists.
- May work at multiple facilities performing the same functions as needed.
- Work alternate shifts, weekends, and holidays to ensure adequate service coverage.
- Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Use Information Systems to receive samples, order tests, respond to nurses and physicians, document quality control, and generate reports.
- Confirm accuracy of patient sample identification and evaluate specimen quality; document quality issues.
- Prepare human tissue sections for immediate examination using rapid tissue processing and frozen section techniques.
- Operate tissue processing equipment to fix, dehydrate, and infiltrate tissue specimens with wax for preservation.
- Perform tissue sectioning with microtome, prepare slides, stain, and coverslip.
- Conduct special and immunohistochemical stains and procedures as needed.
- Perform gross examination on designated specimens under Pathologist direction.
- Maintain filing systems and records for slides, blocks, and tissues.
- Perform daily preventative maintenance on equipment.
Required Qualifications
- Must be qualified to perform high complexity testing according to CLIA 493.1489 Standard.
- ASCP certification required.
- Must have MOHs and grossing experience.
- Flu and COVID vaccinations required.
