Job Opportunity: Respiratory Therapist (Cardiopulmonary)
Location: Craig, Colorado
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
The Certified Respiratory Therapist is responsible for delivering safe and competent respiratory care as ordered by physicians, with emphasis on specialty areas including Emergency, Neonatal, Pediatric, Geriatric, and Critical Care. Duties include monitoring mechanical ventilation, administering medications, patient assessment, hemodynamic monitoring, blood work interpretation, teaching, and training.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver all respiratory care procedures competently according to department policies.
- Maintain accurate documentation of respiratory care procedures.
- Verify physician orders related to respiratory care.
- Participate in patient care rounds, department meetings, and in-services.
- Monitor and manage ventilator patients, including interpreting flow and pressure volume curves.
- Perform arterial blood gas draws.
- Assist with airway management, including bag/mask ventilation and intubation support.
- Train and orient new employees and students.
- Use cardiopulmonary equipment proficiently and troubleshoot as needed.
- Assess patients across all age groups (neonatal to geriatric) and tailor care accordingly.
- Comply with personal protective equipment and infection control policies.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to safety and risk management protocols.
- Participate in continuous quality improvement activities.
Required Qualifications
Education & Licensure
- Graduate of a COARC-approved Respiratory Care Program.
- Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential per NBRC guidelines.
- BLS certification (must be obtained within 90 days of hire).
- NRP certification (must be obtained within 6 months of hire).
Experience
- Minimum 1 year of respiratory experience in a hospital setting.
- Preferred experience in pulmonary diagnostics and cardiac diagnostics (EKG, Holter monitor, Event Monitor, Cardiac Stress Testing).
Other Requirements
- Must be at least 16 years old (21 for driving positions).
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
- Ability to pass background check, drug screen, and breath alcohol test.
- Completion of employee health requirements.
Prior Travel Experience
- Not explicitly required.
This position requires a skilled respiratory therapist with hospital experience and certification, capable of working in a variety of specialty areas within cardiopulmonary care.
