Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (MS/Tele)
Location: Winston Salem, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Work on a Med/Surg Telemetry unit with a 1:6 nurse-to-patient ratio.
- 12-hour day shifts, 36 or 48 hours per week.
- Floating required to other Med/Surg/Telemetry areas, including possible COVID care units.
- Must work every other weekend; if weekend shifts are missed, they must be made up.
- Patient population primarily includes stroke, neurosurgery, epilepsy, traumatic and non-traumatic subdural hematomas, and other neurological diagnoses.
- Unit includes a 4-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU); training provided but typically does not affect travelers unless trained.
- Unit systems: PYXIS, EPIC, SBAR.
- Orientation: 36 hours.
- Scrubs color: Navy.
- Block scheduling not always guaranteed.
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start.
Required Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 2 years nursing experience with at least 1 year of direct Med/Surg experience.
- Traveler Experience: Must have completed at least 2 successful travel contracts; first-time travelers not accepted.
- Skills:
- IV start and telemetry.
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias.
- Med/Surg neuro experience.
- Certifications:
- BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) required.
- NIH Stroke Certification required.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) preferred but not required.
Required Testing and Competencies
- Must pass Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam with a minimum score of 82%.
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable.
- Color Blind Testing within 1 year of start.
Health and Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start (or within 30 days if past positive TB).
- Fit mask testing (N95 or PAPR training) required within 1 year.
- Negative TB test (PPD, Qgold, or Tspot) within 1 year; if positive, chest x-ray within 5 years and TB questionnaire signed by physician within 30 days of start.
- Required immunizations or titers with boosters as needed: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (or facility-specific declination).
- Drug screen within 30 days of start (10-panel urine drug screen).
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/1 - 10/31).
Background and Credentialing
- Criminal background checks including local, federal, national, sex offender, and education verification required within 90 days of start.
- State-specific searches for North Carolina Healthcare Personnel Registry and Division of Medical Assistance required within 90 days of start.
- Education verification required for highest degree earned specific to nursing profession.
- Employment application and references required per Aya Healthcare standards.
Additional Notes
- No Return to Office (RTO) after booking allowed; call-offs or additional RTO may result in contract cancellation.
- Floating to other units is frequent and mandatory.
- Must comply with all Novant Health policies including confidentiality, dress code, and hospital policies.
- Must complete Non-Novant Health Worker Orientation for North Carolina travel candidates.
- Must complete Medication Safety training and submit certificate of completion.
- Must complete Corp ID process and log into I-Learn system prior to start.
This position is ideal for experienced Med/Surg Telemetry RNs with prior travel contract experience who are comfortable with neurological patient care and flexible scheduling including floating and weekend shifts.
