Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (MS/Tele)
Location: Towson, Maryland
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 13 weeks)
Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (19:00 - 07:30)
Schedule: Every other weekend required; holidays as scheduled
Patient Population: Adult/Geriatric; Adolescents with Tanner score > 4 (prearranged)
Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:5
Job Description
- Provide nursing care on a Medical-Surgical/Telemetry unit during night shifts.
- Unit includes general surgery and orthopedic patients.
- Surgeries include complex total joints, cervical and lumbar spine fusions, foot and ankle, head and neck, colorectal, hepatobiliary, urology, and gynecological surgeries.
- Must be capable of EKG and telemetry monitoring; knowledge of rhythm basics required.
- Equipment used includes IV, PCA, PCEA, Capnography, wound vac.
- Communication tools: HCHAPS, White Boards, Bedside shift report, secure text messaging.
- Floating required within specialty and to lower acuity units as needed.
- Pre-scheduled on-call shifts are not required.
Required Qualifications
- License: Maryland RN license required.
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIH Stroke Certification required; CPI preferred.
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required, including general surgery and orthopedic experience with strong skills.
- Travel Experience: First-time travelers accepted if they have at least 1 year of healthcare professional experience with strong skills. Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
- References: Two supervisory references within 1 year of start (one must be from a supervisor/manager; a charge RN is acceptable if directly supervised).
- Employment History: Verification of 7 years of employment history required (attestation acceptable for gaps).
- Background Checks: Comprehensive background checks including 7-year criminal search, education verification, and state-specific exclusions.
- Health Requirements:
- Physical exam within 1 year of start.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility guidelines, updated annually.
- Required immunizations or proof of immunity: Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella.
- Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season.
- COVID vaccine not required but documentation collected for tracking.
- Negative drug screen (9 or 10 panel) within 30 days prior to start.
- Fit mask testing within 1 year of start.
- Competencies: Medication test/pharmacology, color blindness, competency exams, age-specific competency, dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required as applicable.
- Facility Specific: Must complete facility-specific documents including confidentiality agreement, badge application, IT confidentiality agreement, and job description acknowledgment prior to start.

- Unit procedures involve care for complex surgical patients with telemetry monitoring.
