Travel/Contract ICU Registered Nurse (CICU RN)
Location: Columbia, South Carolina
Facility Type: Acute Care Hospital
Position Details
- Specialty: Critical Care / CICU Registered Nurse
- Shift: 3x12 hour shifts, Nights (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Patient Ratios: 1:1 to 1:2
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (12 shifts during contract)
- On-call: May be placed on call for low census, but additional call shifts are not required
- Floating: Yes, may float within scope to like units or sister facilities
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Required Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 2 years ICU experience
- License: South Carolina RN license or Multi-State Compact RN license
- Certifications:
- ACLS (AHA only, RQI acceptable)
- BLS (AHA only)
- NIH Stroke Scale Certification
- Preferred Experience: CRRT - Prismax equipment experience preferred
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required (first-time travelers accepted)
Schedule & Work Conditions
- Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks
- Local Radius: 60 miles
- Locals: Accepted on a case-by-case basis
Orientation & Training
- Completion of facility-specific orientation modules (approx. 2-6 hours depending on location) is mandatory before starting
- Must complete First Day Instructions (FDI) and OurDay modules prior to orientation
- Photo for badge required (passport-style, solid light background, frontal view)
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 90 days of start, updated annually, confirming ability to work without restrictions
- Respirator medical clearance required annually (RespSafety virtual questionnaire)
- Immunizations and screenings required:
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination form
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days) or chest x-ray if prior positive
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: positive titer or 2 vaccines (boosters if low titer)
- Hepatitis B: titer, vaccine series, or declination
- Seasonal Flu vaccine or medical/religious exemption during flu season (Aug-April)
- COVID-19 vaccines highly preferred; if declined, must complete MUSC Vaccination Declination form
- 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
Background & Verification
- Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
- Employment verification of last 3 clinical employers (or all if fewer than 3)
- Education verification required; diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholder if needed
- NURSYS license verification required for all RNs
- Primary source license verification confirming active, unencumbered SC RN license
- References: Minimum 2 clinical references, including at least one from the unit applying for
Additional Notes
- Radiation badge not required for CICU RN
- Must complete facility-specific confidentiality, security, contractor forms, and job description prior to start
- Hurricane season (June-November) may require assignment to emergency response teams; peak months August-September
- Facility uses Epic for charting
This position is suitable for ICU RNs with at least 2 years of critical care experience, who hold a valid SC or compact RN license, and possess required certifications. First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.
