Job Opportunity: Pediatric OR Registered Nurse
Location: New Brunswick, New Jersey
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Schedule:
- 2 shifts of 12 hours (7 PM - 7:30 AM)
- 2 shifts of 8 hours (11 PM - 7:30 AM)
- 12-hour shifts occur 2 out of every 3 weekends
- Types of cases: General surgery, urology, orthopedic, neurosurgery, ophthalmology, advanced ENT, spine
- Responsibilities: Must scrub and circulate during surgeries
- Scrubs provided
- No on-call required
- Block scheduling requests must be included and approved
- Local candidates accepted
Required Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 1.5 years of Registered Nurse experience (specialty experience)
- Licenses/Certifications:
- Current RN license valid in New Jersey
- BLS (Basic Life Support) required
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) preferred and required for Pediatric OR
- CNOR (Certified Nurse Operating Room) preferred
- Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
Required Certifications (as applicable to Pediatric OR RN)
- BLS: AHA required; RQI and instructor cards acceptable
- PALS: AHA required; RQI and instructor cards acceptable; required for Pediatric OR and pediatric units
- ACLS: Not required for Pediatric OR RN
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program): Required for L&D, Mother Baby, NICU, Nursery, Antepartum, Special Care Nursery; not required for Pediatric OR RN
- CHEMO Certification: Not required for Pediatric OR RN
- Other:
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam as applicable
- Pass/Fail testing (EKG/Medication) required for clinical staff
Health and Safety Requirements
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 3 months of start
- Physical exam within 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease
- Drug screen within 30 days of start (10-panel urine drug screen)
- Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
- Fit test and respiratory medical clearance if job tasks require respirator use
- Color blindness exam if job tasks require color discrimination
- Latex allergy questionnaire within 12 months of start
- Required immunizations or proof of immunity:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B (titer required)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years
Background and Documentation
- Criminal background check within 30 days of start (including alias and multi-level searches)
- Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history
- Work history verification for at least 1 year prior to start (New Jersey state requirement)
- Two professional references within last 2 years (one managerial)
- Completion of facility-specific floating policy and annual education sign-off
- Vendor medical clearance form if history of positive TB
- Annual education and competency documentation as required
Additional Notes
- Candidates must be able to scrub and circulate in the OR
- Block scheduling requests must be approved prior to assignment
- No on-call duties
- Scrubs are provided by the facility
- Local candidates are accepted
This position is ideal for Pediatric OR Registered Nurses with at least 1.5 years of experience, current BLS and PALS certifications, and the ability to work night shifts including weekends.
