Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (PCU) - New Brunswick, New Jersey
Job Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (PCU)
- Location: New Brunswick, New Jersey
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Patient Population: Pre and post-op trauma, TBIs, ortho, vascular, neuro, bariatric patients (s/p gastric bypass and sleeves), IMC, Telemetry, and Medical patients.
- Ratios: Approximately 1:4-5+ (confirm with recruiter)
- Floating: May float within skillset when not needed on home unit.
- Scheduling: No block scheduling.
- Locals Accepted: Yes
- First Time Travelers: Accepted
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 2+ years of RN experience required.
- Experience with:
- EPIC electronic health record system
- Wound vacs
- Respiratory care (chest tubes, BIPAP, HFNC, interpreting ABGs, tracheostomies)
- Skin grafts
- Surgical drains
- Orthopedic traumas
- CVAs (strokes)
- TBIs (traumatic brain injuries)
- Spinal cord injury
- Pre/post neurosurgery care
- Patient-controlled analgesia (PCAs)
- Cardiac drips (no titration)
- IV access (ports, central lines, PICCs)
- Dysrhythmia interpretation and management
- Experience with intracranial bleeds
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
Licensure
- Must hold a valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for New Jersey.
Prior Travel Experience
- Not required; first-time travelers are accepted.
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background check within 30 days of start (including aliases, all locations lived/worked in past 7 years, sex offender registry, nationwide checks).
- Drug screen within 30 days of start.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol.
- Physical exam within the last 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease.
- Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually.
- Fit test and respiratory medical clearance prior to start.
- Various health immunizations and titers required (Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap).
- Completion of medication, dysrhythmia/EKG, and competency exams within 72 hours of signing.
- References: 2 references within last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference.
- Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history.
- Skills checklist updated annually.
- Floating policy acknowledgment required for every new assignment.
- Annual education sign-off and facility-specific orientation requirements.
Additional Notes
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with diverse patient populations.
- Ability to float to other units within skillset.
- Documentation and certifications must be current and compliant with facility and agency policies.
- Candidates must complete required pass/fail testing and remediation if necessary.
- Candidates with name changes must provide proof and update all documentation accordingly.
