Job Summary: Registered Nurse (MS/Tele) - Travel/Contract
Location: Winston Salem, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: 12-hour day shifts (36 or 48 hours offered)
- Patient Population: Orthopedic, Neuro spine, Med-surg, Post-surgical
- Average Daily Census: 37 patients
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: Typically 5-6:1, can flex to 7:1 in extreme cases
- Float Requirement: Required to float to other med-surg units as needed
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend required; weekend call-offs must be made up
- Scheduling: Block scheduling options available (e.g., Fri/Sat/Sun or Sat/Sun/Mon)
- Unit Environment: Fast-paced unit focusing on ortho and spine patients with pain management needs
- Time Off (RTO) Policy: No RTO allowed after booking; max 7 days RTO for auto offer; no Easter or holiday RTO approved
Required Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in Orthopedics (highest required specialty experience)
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required; first-time travelers accepted if they have EPIC experience
- Skills: IV start, telemetry
- Certifications: BCLS, NIH Stroke Certification
- Preferred Certifications/Skills: ACLS, charge nurse experience, Level I trauma experience
- Testing: Must pass EKG competency testing prior to start
Licensure
- Must hold a valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for North Carolina
Compliance & Background Requirements
- Criminal background checks within 90 days covering local, federal, national databases, sex offender search, and education verification
- Drug screening within 30 days of start (10-panel, negative result required)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start (updated annually if past positive TB)
- Fit mask testing (N95 or PAPR training) required within 1 year
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray per facility policy
- Required immunizations or titers: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (facility-specific declination form if titer negative)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
- State-specific registry checks within 90 days prior to start (NC Healthcare Personnel Registry and Division of Medical Assistance)
Orientation & Training Requirements
- Completion of Non-Novant Health Worker Orientation (approx. 8 hours) for North Carolina travel candidates
- Medication safety training and competency exams as applicable
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam with minimum passing score of 82% (3 attempts allowed)
- Other facility-specific trainings and acknowledgments (e.g., confidentiality agreement, hospital policies)
Additional Notes
- No return to origin (RTO) allowed after booking; strict attendance policies
- Unit accepts locals and travelers
- EPIC experience preferred for first-time travelers
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced orthopedic and neuro spine environment with pain management focus
- Floating to other med-surg units is mandatory based on census needs
