Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (MS/Tele) - Travel/Contract
Location: Winston Salem, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse with orthopedic experience for a fast-paced Med-Surg/Telemetry unit. The unit primarily cares for orthopedic, neuro spine, med-surg, and post-surgical patients. The role requires strong skills in pain management and the ability to float to other med-surg units as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (MS/Tele)
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of nursing experience with ORTHOPEDIC experience (highest required)
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required; 1st time travelers accepted if they have EPIC experience
- Certifications:
- BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Certification
- Skills:
- IV Start
- Telemetry
- Float Requirement: Must be willing to float to other med-surg units within the facility
- Shift: 12-hour day shifts (36 or 48 hours offered)
- Patient Ratio: Typically 5-6:1, can flex to 7:1 in extreme cases
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend required; weekend call-offs must be made up on a weekend
- Scheduling: Block scheduling options available (e.g., Fri/Sat/Sun or Sat/Sun/Mon)
- Additional Requirements:
- Must pass EKG competency testing prior to start
- No Return to Office (RTO) after booking allowed; limited RTO allowed onsite (max 7 days)
- No holiday RTO approved
Patient Population
- Orthopedic and neuro spine patients
- Med-surg and post-surgical patients
- COVID-19 patients are cared for on all units unless in ICU
Preferred Qualifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- Charge Nurse experience
- Level I Trauma experience
Compliance & Onboarding Requirements
- Background checks within 6 months
- Drug screening within 6 months (9-panel or instant acceptable)
- Immunizations and health documents including:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella titers or vaccinations
- Hepatitis B status or declination form
- Flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season
- Competency exams including Dysrhythmia/EKG exam (must pass with 82% or higher)
- Color blindness testing within 1 year
- Medication and pharmacology competency exams
- Various facility-specific orientation and compliance trainings (e.g., medication safety, confidentiality, hospital policies)
- Photo for badge (passport style, business attire) required before start
- Must complete Epic training or have Epic experience
Additional Notes
- Floating to other med-surg units is mandatory to meet census needs
- Fast-paced environment requiring strong pain management skills
- Strict attendance and RTO policies to avoid contract cancellation
- Block scheduling available to support work-life balance
