Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN)

Location: Glenview, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Position Details

• Shift: 5x8 (7:00 AM - 3:30 PM)
• Call Requirements: Pre-assigned by coordinator; 1-2 shifts per week expected
• Weekend Requirement: 2-3 weekend days per 8-week schedule
• Holiday Requirement: Option to pick up holiday call or fill in as needed
• Patient Ratios: 1:1 for all shifts (16 rooms, 16 beds)
• Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week

• Specialty: Registered Nurse - Operating Room (OR)
• Minimum Years of Experience: 2 years (first-time travelers NOT accepted)
• Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
• Experience Required:

  • General OR experience required
  • Vascular and ophthalmology experience required
  • Vascular call experience required
  • CVOR & Hybrid OR experience preferred
• Surgical Case Experience Required:

  • Endo/Laparoscopic, General Surgery, Ophthalmology, Urology, Vascular
• Specific Vascular Skills:

  • Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm repair, Aortocaval fistula repair, Aortoenteric fistula repair, Arteriovenous fistula repair, Arteriovenous malformation surgery, Atherectomy, Carotid angioplasty, Carotid artery stenting, Carotid Endarterectomy, Endovascular Aneurysm Repair, Femoral popliteal bypass graft, Renal artery bypass surgery, Scrub Vascular Surgery, TEVAR (Thoracic Endovascular Aortic Repair), Vein stripping
• General Surgery Skills:

  • Appendectomy, Cholecystectomy, Colon resection, Hernia repair (inguinal/umbilical), Laparoscopic assisted procedures, Scrub General Surgery, Thyroidectomy (partial/total)
• Ophthalmology Skills:

  • Cataract extraction/implant, Eye trauma, Glaucoma surgery, Vitrectomy, Scrub Ophthalmology Surgery
• Urology Skills:

  • Cystoscopy
• Additional Required Experience: Trauma amputation experience

Required Certifications & Licenses

• License: Active Illinois RN license required (no pending licenses accepted)
• Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) required
  • CNOR preferred
• Other Certifications (may be required or preferred):

  • ACLS, PALS, NRP, EFM (depending on unit/profession)

Special Requirements & Skills

• Experience with electrosurgical units and fiber optic light sources/cords
• Knowledge and skills in:

  • Administration of blood products
  • Cardiac monitoring
  • Infection control
  • Laser safety
  • Radiation safety
  • Specimen handling/labeling
  • Universal Protocol (Time Out) procedure

Additional Notes

• Locals accepted with no radius restrictions
• Return to Office (RTO) restrictions: Ideally no more than 5 days
• Call shifts are pre-assigned and mandatory as per schedule

Compliance & Onboarding Requirements

• Background checks including SS trace, county searches, nationwide sex offender check
• Various health documents required including:

  • Physical exam within 1 year
  • Fit mask test within 12 months
  • Immunizations and titers (Tdap, MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Flu vaccine during season)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray as applicable
  • Drug testing (10 panel within 30 days of start)
  • Vision and color blindness exams within 1 year
• Competency exams including medication test and dysrhythmia/EKG competency (not required for OR RNs)
• Facility-specific documents and confidentiality agreements required
• Two professional references required

This position is ideal for experienced OR RNs with strong vascular, ophthalmology, and general surgery skills seeking a travel contract in a teaching and magnet hospital environment.
