Job Opportunity: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (ER RN)
Location: Durham, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Position: Emergency Department Registered Nurse (ED RN)
- Shift Start Dates: 3/9 and 3/23
- Schedule: No blocked schedule requests
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Floating: May float to ED observation unit
- Patient Ratios: 1:4
- Scrubs Color: Royal Blue
- Orientation: Bi-weekly
- Flu Vaccine: Required, no exemptions or declinations accepted
- First-Timer Travel Nurses: Accepted
- Local Candidates: Accepted
Required Qualifications
- License: North Carolina RN license or Compact RN license in hand
- Specialty Experience: Minimum 2 years of RN experience (Emergency Department preferred)
- Certifications:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- Preferred Certification: CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) – training provided onsite if not currently held
Required Skills & Competencies
- Ability to work in a fast-paced Emergency Department environment
- Flexibility to float to ED observation unit as needed
- Adherence to patient ratio standards (1 nurse to 4 patients)
- Completion of unit-specific competency exams during orientation
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start date
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
- Up-to-date immunizations including:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
- Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
- Polio vaccine or attestation
- Seasonal flu vaccination required for new hires starting October through March (no exemptions)
- Negative 10-panel drug test within 30 days of start (instant tests not accepted)
Background & Documentation Requirements
- Background check within 90 days of start, including multi-county and nationwide searches
- Employment application and 7 years of work history documented
- Two professional references from employment within the last 12 months (at least one supervisor)
- Social Security card (if used for I9)
- Valid driver’s license or government-issued photo ID
- Completion of facility-specific online modules prior to orientation
- Setup of facility guest account prior to clearance to ensure access to orientation and work systems
Additional Information
- Candidates must complete competency checklists within 3 weeks after start date
- Pass/fail testing on EKG/medication knowledge during orientation (passing grade 80%)
- CPI training provided onsite during orientation if not already certified
- Candidates with less than a 30-day gap between previous assignments may have some documentation requirements waived or accepted on file
