Job Opportunity: Certified Surgical Assistant (SFA - Surg Tech First Assist)
Location: Bismarck, North Dakota
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Certified Surgical Assistant with strong experience in Cardiovascular surgical procedures and general surgery. The role involves assisting in a variety of surgical specialties including Cardiovascular, General, Orthopedics, OB/GYN, Urology, ENT, and Plastics. Work will be split between the main hospital surgery center and an outpatient surgery center nearby.
Work Schedule
- Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
- Call required once every week (3:30 PM – 7:00 AM next day)
- One weekend call shift every 4 weeks
Required Experience and Skills
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Cardiovascular surgical procedures and basic General surgery procedures
- Experience with procedures such as CABG, Angiograms, Endarterectomies (Carotid and Femoral), Aortic Root repairs, Valve Replacement, AAA repairs
- Ability to assist in General, Orthopedic, OB/GYN, Urology, ENT, and Plastic surgeries
Required Certifications and Licenses
- BLS Certification
Work Environment and Equipment
- 12 Operating Rooms at main hospital, 6 ORs at outpatient surgery center
- Nurse to patient ratio: 1:1
- Computerized charting system (EPIC)
- Equipment includes Covidien cauteries, Stryker laparoscopic towers, etc.
- Scrubs provided (Ceil Blue)
Orientation and Training
- One-week orientation with a preceptor
- Exposure to multiple surgical specialties including Cardiovascular, Neuro, General, Ortho, Plastics, OB/GYN, Robotic, ENT, and Urology
- Preference cards for surgical procedures are thorough and up to date
- Collaborative work environment with surgeons and other surgical assistants (RN First Assists and Surgical Technologist First Assists)
Additional Information
- Must badge in and out at the facility
- Local travelers with permanent addresses within 80 miles are not accepted
- Prior work at this facility requires a minimum 6-month gap before reapplying
Summary
This position is ideal for a Certified Surgical Assistant with at least 2 years of cardiovascular and general surgery experience, comfortable working a Monday-Friday schedule with weekly call and periodic weekend call, and able to work across multiple surgical specialties in a busy surgical environment.
