Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse
Location: Jersey City, New Jersey
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift:
- Option 1: 2 shifts from 3 PM to 11 PM + 2 shifts from 12 PM to 12 AM
- Option 2: 2 shifts from 3 PM to 11 PM + 2 shifts from 1 PM to 1 AM
- Final schedule to be discussed during interview
- Call: 2 times per schedule
- Trauma Level: Level 2 Trauma Center
- Patient Mix: All OR specialties except Open Heart
- Charting System: EPIC
- Scrub and Circulate: Must be able to perform both roles
- Robotic and ENT experience required
- Experience in Ortho, Vascular, General, Thoracic, Neuro surgeries required
Required Qualifications
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (Operating Room)
- Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years of current acute care or OR experience (highest requirement)
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required; first-time travelers accepted
- Licenses & Certifications:
- Current RN license valid in New Jersey
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be required depending on unit (confirm during onboarding)
- Other certifications as applicable to OR nursing (e.g., Surgical Tech certifications if applicable)
Skills & Competencies
- Ability to circulate and scrub in the operating room
- Experience with robotic surgeries and ENT procedures
- Experience with orthopedic, vascular, general, thoracic, and neurological surgeries
- Must submit a work history scrub and circulate skills checklist
Health & Safety Requirements
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframe
- Physical exam within the last 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions
- Drug screening within 30 days of start
- Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
- Fit testing for respirators as applicable
- Color blindness screening if job tasks require color discrimination
- Other immunizations and titers required:
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
- Background checks including criminal, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and state-specific exclusions
- Annual education and competency exams including medication and EKG/dysrhythmia testing
- Pass/fail testing for clinical knowledge (e.g., pharmacology, EKG) with remediation process
Documentation & Compliance
- Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history
- Two professional references within the last 2 years (one managerial)
- Skills checklist updated annually
- Background attestation if background check is pending at start
- Facility-specific documents and acknowledgments (e.g., safety manuals, vendor medical clearance)
- Completion of annual education sign-off and facility orientation requirements
Additional Information
- Scrubs provided
- Must complete all required health screenings and certifications prior to start
- Floating policy applies for transfers between sites within the hospital system
- Must comply with all facility-specific policies and procedures
This position offers a challenging and rewarding opportunity for experienced OR Registered Nurses with specialized surgical experience in a Level 2 Trauma Center environment.
