Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (MS/Tele) - Travel/Contract

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Contract Length: 16 weeks


Job Summary

  • Position in a comprehensive cancer center with 318 acute care beds, specializing in oncology and medical-surgical telemetry.
  • Night shift with floating to MedSurg and PCU Oncology units including Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT), Acute Leukemia, Hematology, Medical Oncology, PCU Oncology, Gynecological Oncology, Urology, Colorectal, Surgical Oncology, and Corrections Healthcare.
  • Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention.

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2+ years of high acuity Med Surg Telemetry level or higher experience required.
  • Oncology experience preferred but not required.

Staffing Ratios

  • PCU: 1:3 (can be 1:4 with mixed acuity)
  • Med Surg Telemetry: ideally 1:4, can be 1:5

Orientation

  • First week: Monday to Friday, day shift orientation.
  • Weeks 2-3: Five bedside orientation shifts.
  • Then independent practice.

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only (Instructor/Provider and RQI acceptable).
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only (Instructor/Provider and RQI acceptable).
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale Certification).

Required Competencies

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required prior to start).
  • Unit-Specific Competency Exam.
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam: Required for all RNs within 1 year of start (updated annually). Minimum passing score 76%.

Required Licenses

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Ohio.
  • License verification required within 30 days of start.
  • NURSYS verification required for RNs.

Background and Screening Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio BCI & FBI fingerprinting required within 1 year of start).
  • Pending background check attestation allowed if fingerprint results are pending.
  • Education accreditation confirmation required: graduate of an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA).
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monthly monitoring required.

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year of start; TB questionnaire required.
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12).
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters required if low titer.
  • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemptions require documentation.
  • Hepatitis B: Titer or 3-vaccine series or signed declination.
  • Seasonal Flu vaccination or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31).
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending drug screens allowed).

Additional Requirements

  • 2 professional references required (at least 1 from a manager/director or formal leadership).
  • Employment application and skills checklist required.
  • Annual orientation safety manual acknowledgement.
  • Compliance with dress code and hand hygiene policies.
  • Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually.
  • Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and acknowledged annually.

Scheduling

  • No set/blocked scheduling; self-scheduling requests submitted and balanced by management.
  • Weekends variable based on unit needs.
