Job Opportunity: Medical Technologist (Laboratory)

Location: New Brunswick, New Jersey
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Must have a BS in Medical Technology or related field with 1 year of clinical rotations in a Medical Technology school.
• 4 years of Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) experience required.
• Recent dedicated Blood Bank experience required (Generalist experience does not qualify).
• Strong blood bank experience is essential.
• Preferred experience with Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) and Level 1 Trauma patients.
• Experience with Softbank and EPIC systems is highly preferred.
• Work will be in Blood Bank and Transfusion services.
• Shift: 3 PM to 11:30 PM.
• Every third weekend (Friday/Saturday) required.
• No on-call duties.
• ASCP certification preferred.

Required Qualifications

• BS in Medical Technology or related field with clinical rotations.
• Minimum 4 years of MT or MLS experience.
• Recent and strong dedicated Blood Bank experience (generalist experience not accepted).
• ASCP certification preferred but not mandatory.

Prior Travel Experience

Certifications & Competencies

• Must meet all applicable certifications and competencies as required by the facility and specialty.
• Specific certifications such as ACLS, BLS, PALS, NRP, CHEMO, and others are generally not required for this Laboratory role but may be required for other disciplines.
• Competency exams and background checks are mandatory.

Background & Health Requirements

• Criminal background check within 30 days of start.
• Drug screening within 30 days of start.
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray as per facility policy.
• Physical exam within the last 12 months confirming ability to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease.
• Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually.
• Fit test and respirator medical clearance if job tasks require respirator use.
• Color blindness testing if job tasks require color discrimination.
• Other immunization and health document requirements include proof of immunity or vaccination for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Varicella
  • Hepatitis B
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap

Work History & References

• Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history required.
• Two references within the last 2 years required, including at least one managerial reference.
• Work history verification required for New Jersey candidates, verifying at least 1 year prior to start date with no gaps over 30 days.

Schedule & Work Conditions

• Shift: 3 PM to 11:30 PM.
• Every third weekend (Friday/Saturday) required.
• No on-call responsibilities.

Additional Notes

• Must comply with all facility-specific policies including floating policies and annual education sign-offs.
• Must complete all required background, health, and competency documentation prior to start.
• Facility uses Softbank and EPIC systems.
