Job Opportunity: Medical Lab Technician (Travel/Contract)

Location: New Brunswick, New Jersey

Job Description

• Must have recent dedicated Blood Bank experience (Generalist experience does NOT qualify).
• Work hours: 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM.
• Responsibilities include working in Blood Bank and Transfusion services.
• Every third weekend (Friday/Saturday) required.
• No on-call duties.
• Experience with Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) and Level 1 Trauma patients is highly preferred.
• Experience with Softbank and EPIC systems is highly preferred.

Required Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology or related field.
• Clinical Rotations: Minimum 1 year of clinical rotations in a Medical Technology school.
• Experience: Minimum 4 years of Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) experience.
• Certification: ASCP certification preferred.

Prior Travel Experience

• No explicit requirement for prior travel experience mentioned.

Required Documentation & Compliance

• Background Checks: Criminal background check within 30 days of start, including alias and multi-level searches. No open cases allowed.
• Drug Screen: Negative 10-panel urine drug screen within 30 days of start.
• Health Documents:

  • Physical exam within the last 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease.
  • TB screening (blood or skin test) within 3 months of start or as per facility protocol.
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity for Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, and Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap.
  • Annual influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required.
  • Fit test and respiratory medical clearance required prior to start.
  • Latex allergy questionnaire if job tasks require glove use.
  • Color vision test if job tasks require color discrimination.

Competency & Certification Exams

• Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required within 72 hours of signing.
• Other competency exams as applicable (e.g., color blind testing).

Scheduling & Work Conditions

• Shift: 3 PM to 11:30 PM.
• Every third weekend (Friday/Saturday) required.
• No on-call responsibilities.

Additional Notes

• Must complete facility-specific floating policy for every new assignment.
• References: Two references within the last 2 years required, including at least one managerial reference.
• Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history required.
• New Jersey candidates require verification of at least 1 year of prior work history with no gaps over 30 days.
