Travel/Contract Registered Nurse (ICU)

Location: Charlotte, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse with recent ICU experience for a travel/contract position in an Intermediate Critical Care Unit. The unit cares for patients with diagnoses including DKA, Sickle Cell, Sepsis, Respiratory Distress, Pneumonia, Heart Failure, Stroke, and stroke-like symptoms. The role involves rapid response nursing and requires floating to Med Surg as needed.

Required Qualifications

• Specialty: Registered Nurse (ICU)
• Experience: Minimum 2 years of recent ICU experience
• Prior Travel Experience: Not required; first-time travelers accepted
• Certifications:

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support)
• Skills:

  • IV Start
  • Telemetry and Cardiac Telemetry
  • Titration of Cardiac Drips
  • Use of Rapid Response Teams
  • Feeding Tube Management
  • Heparin Protocols
  • PCA (Patient-Controlled Analgesia)
  • CVA (Cerebrovascular Accident) care
• Preferred Skills:

  • MS/Telemetry
  • Titration of Vasoactive Drips
  • Care of Ventilated Patients
  • Wound Care/Wound Vac
• Additional Requirements:

  • Must pass EKG competency testing prior to start
  • Float to Med Surg unit as needed (1:6 ratio)
  • Weekend shifts: minimum 4 per 6-week schedule

Work Details

• Shift: 12-hour nights (18:45 - 07:15)
• Hours: Approximately 36 hours per week
• Patient Ratio: 1:4 in ICU, 1:6 when floating to Med Surg
• Orientation: 36 hours
• Uniform: Navy or Navy and White scrubs
• Unit Systems: PYXSIS, EPIC
• Scheduling: Self-schedule with staff approval
• Special Equipment: Bipap, Cpap, Optiflow

Patient Population

• Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA)
• Sickle Cell Disease
• Sepsis
• Respiratory Distress
• Pneumonia
• Heart Failure
• Stroke and stroke-like symptoms

Compliance & Onboarding Requirements

• Background checks within 6 months
• Drug screening within 6 months (9-panel acceptable)
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (or proof of past positive)
• Required immunizations and titers: Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
• Flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
• Medication Safety training and other facility-specific education modules
• Competency exams including Dysrhythmia/EKG exam (must score 82% or higher)
• Photo for badge (passport style, white background)
• Confidentiality and hospital policy acknowledgments
• Physical exam (as per travel agency standards)

Notes

• No call-offs or additional RTO (Return to Office) allowed after booking; missed shifts must be made up within the same week or added to the end of the contract.
• Prior travel experience is not required; first-time travelers are welcome.
• Must have recent ICU experience to qualify.
