Job Opportunity: RRT - Pediatrics/NICU (Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics)
Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Respiratory Therapy - Pediatrics / NICU (Level 4 NICU)
- Shift: 3x12 hour night shifts (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- On-call: No
- Floating: Depends on experience; no floating to sister facilities required
- First-timers: Accepted
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years in specialty (Pediatric, Neonate, and Infant experience required)
- Certifications:
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA certification required
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - AHA certification required
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) - AHA/AAP certification required
- Licensure:
- South Carolina Respiratory Care Provider (RCP) license required and must be in hand at time of start
- Pending state license accepted only if SC RRT license is obtained before start
- Preferred:
- Epic electronic health record experience
Schedule & Work Environment
- Teaching hospital with Magnet status and Level 1 Trauma designation
- Total staffed beds: 865
- Charting system: Epic
- Scrub color: Caribbean Blue
- Parking available with nominal cost for nights and weekends
- Hurricane season (June-November) may require emergency response team participation
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Proof of work eligibility (I-9, E-Verify)
- Copy of Driver’s License/State ID
- Social Security Card or SSN verification
- Background checks including:
- 7-year history with SSN trace, county, state, national criminal, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, and international searches if applicable
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- Education verification or diploma/transcripts as placeholder
- Clinical references (2 required)
- Employment application with complete work history and no unaccounted gaps
- Work history verification of last 3 clinical employers
- Competency exams and medication/pharmacology competency as applicable
- Color blindness testing prior to start
- Facility-specific orientation modules and first day instructions must be completed before start
- Clear, passport-style badge photo required before start
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam updated annually, attesting ability to meet job demands
- Fit test for N95 mask (O&M Halyard FLUIDSHIELD or 3M Aura 1870+) within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
- Immunizations and titers:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years or declination form
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: positive titer or vaccination series with boosters if low titer
- Hepatitis B: titer, vaccine series, or declination
- Varicella: positive titer or vaccination series with boosters if low titer
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or chest x-ray if prior positive
- Annual TB questionnaire
- 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
- COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred; if declined, MUSC Vaccination Declination form required
- Flu vaccine required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30) or medical/religious exemption; no declinations accepted
- Sterile Processing Techs have additional lab and physical assessment requirements (not applicable for this role)
Additional Notes
- Radius rule: 60 miles; locals may be accepted on a case-by-case basis
- Guaranteed hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
- Radiation badge not required for this role
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position
