Description

Job Opportunity: MS/Tele Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Orangeburg, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry (MS/Tele)
  • Shift: 3x12 hour shifts, Days (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
  • Patient Ratios: 1:5-6
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • On-call: No
  • Floating: Required to float within scope to like units/sister facilities
  • First-time travelers: Accepted

Required Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum 2 years in specialty (MS/Tele)
  • License: South Carolina RN license or Compact RN license must be active and in hand prior to start
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA certification required
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA certification required
    • NIH Stroke Certification preferred
  • Competencies:
    • Telemetry competency required
    • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required
    • Color Blind Testing required prior to start
  • Preferred:
    • Previous charge nurse experience
    • Community hospital experience

Facility & Work Environment

  • Facility Type: Acute Care Hospital
  • Trauma Level: Level III Trauma Center
  • Total Staffed Beds: 286
  • Charting System: Epic
  • Parking: No cost
  • Scrub Color: Royal Blue
  • Hurricane Season: Travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams during June-November (peak in August-September)

Scheduling & Work Conditions

  • Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
  • Block schedule accommodation possible but not guaranteed
  • Local radius: 60 miles
  • Locals may be accepted on a case-by-case basis

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Background Checks:
    • Annual background check covering last 7 years of residence/employment
    • SSN Trace, Statewide, National Criminal, Sex Offender Registry, FACIS 3, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, OFAC Sanctions List, State-specific Medicaid Excluded Providers
  • Education Verification: Required (diploma/transcripts accepted as placeholder)
  • Licensure Verification: Primary source verification required; must be active and unencumbered
  • NURSYS Verification: Required for all RNs
  • Photo for Badge: Passport-style photo with solid light background, business casual attire, no hats/sunglasses
  • Physical Exam: Initial and annual physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands
  • Immunizations & Health Requirements:
    • Tdap within 10 years or declination form
    • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days) or chest x-ray if prior positive
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer or vaccination series required; boosters accepted if low titer
    • Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
    • Flu vaccine required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30) or medical/religious exemption (no declinations accepted)
    • COVID vaccines highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
  • Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
  • Respirator Clearance: Annual medical clearance required for patient-facing staff
  • Radiation Badge: Not required for this position

Additional Notes

  • Travelers must complete all required orientation modules prior to start; failure to complete may result in being sent home
  • All certifications must be current and not expire within 30 days of assignment start
  • Facility requires proof of 2 clinical references
  • Work history verification of last 3 clinical employers required
  • Travelers must upload COVID and flu vaccination documentation into the facility’s system

Prior Travel Experience

  • Not required for this position

This opportunity is ideal for RNs with at least 2 years of MS/Telemetry experience who hold a valid SC or Compact RN license and are comfortable working day shifts with a 1:5-6 patient ratio in an acute care, Level III trauma hospital setting. Telemetry competency and ACLS certification are mandatory. First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.
