Description

Job Opportunity: Behavioral Health Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Harvey, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – Required for all candidates (AHA provider or AHA RQI accepted; RQI provider like Laerdal not accepted)
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) – Required for Behavioral Health clinical candidates (may be completed onsite twice per month)

Other certifications such as ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM may be required or recommended for specific units but are not specified for this role.


Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
  • Minimum 1 year of psychiatric experience within the last year
  • Experience in Behavioral Health and Mental Health nursing
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Prior Travel Experience

  • Not explicitly required

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year background check including aliases and multiple databases
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Education verification (ADN or BSN required)
  • Fingerprinting required only if no Illinois state license (not applicable for RN)
  • NURSYS verification within 30 days of start
  • References: 2 required
  • Employment application and work history verification covering last 7 years
  • Skills checklist updated annually for assigned and float units

Health and Immunization Requirements (Must be current and compliant)

  • Physical exam within 1 year, updated annually
  • Fit mask test within 1 year (specific mask models required)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination or declination (within 10 years)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
  • TB questionnaire if positive TB test
  • Proof of immunity or vaccination for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (declination allowed)
    • Varicella
  • Negative 9-panel drug test within 30 days of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (flu season Oct-Mar)

Additional Facility Requirements

  • Photo for badge (passport style, plain background, no headgear)
  • Completion of facility orientation modules (~2 hours) prior to start
  • COVID-19 and Influenza vaccine exemption forms require advance submission and approval if applicable

Summary

This is a 13-week travel contract for a Behavioral Health RN position in Illinois requiring at least 1 year of Behavioral Health nursing experience. Candidates must have a valid Illinois RN license, BLS and CPI certifications, and meet comprehensive background, health, and immunization requirements. Prior travel experience is not required, and first-time travelers are welcome. Weekend and floating shifts are required. The position uses Epic for charting and does not accommodate block scheduling.
