Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (PCU) - Travel/Contract
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Contract Length: 16 weeks
Job Description
- Work on a mixed acuity surgical oncology unit caring for PCU and Med Surg patients.
- Busy surgical floor with a focus on surgical oncology, including breast, thyroid, melanoma, hepatobiliary, colorectal, and plastics reconstructive cases.
- Staffing ratios goal: 1:4 (may be 1:5).
- Variable weekends based on unit needs.
- Rotating 12-hour day/night shifts; schedule reviewed every 4 weeks but not guaranteed.
- Self-scheduling requests allowed before final schedule posting.
- Orientation: 1 week Monday-Friday day shift, followed by 36 hours on-unit orientation with a preceptor.

Patient Diagnoses
- Surgical Oncology: breast, thyroid, melanoma
- Hepatobiliary cancers: liver, pancreas, spleen, biliary tract, neuroendocrine
- Colorectal cancers: colon, rectal
- Plastics: reconstructive breast cancer or sarcoma
Special Procedures / Unit Details
- Chemotherapy administration
- Blood transfusions
- IV antibiotics
- Management of oncologic emergencies
- Cytokine release syndrome
- Insulin and heparin drips
- Heavy focus on infection prevention and patient fall protocols
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, including experience within the last year
- Surgical Oncology nursing experience
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience working with adult and geriatric patient populations

Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific codes required)
- Education accreditation verification from CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA accredited nursing programs
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
- Pending background check attestation allowed if fingerprint results are pending
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending tests allowed)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Tdap (adult dose)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- TB questionnaire
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccines or positive titers
- Hepatitis B titer or vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- Varicella vaccines or positive titer (medical exemption allowed)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
- COVID vaccination not required but strongly recommended
Competency Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam prior to start
- Unit-specific competency exam
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam within 1 year of start and annually thereafter (with remediation process if failed)
Orientation and Policies
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required annually
- Dress code and hand hygiene policy acknowledgment required
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
- Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and acknowledged annually

- Two professional references required (at least one from a manager or formal leadership)

This position is ideal for experienced Registered Nurses with oncology or surgical PCU experience who are comfortable with rotating shifts and working in a fast-paced, mixed acuity environment.
