Description
Travel/Contract Registered Nurse (Stepdown Cardiac)
Location: Dayton, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse with Stepdown (SD) or Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience. ICU experience does not count toward SD/PCU experience requirement. Targeted patient ratios are 1:5-6.
Required Experience
- Minimum 1.5 years of nursing experience
- Must have documented 1:5 ratio experience in SD or PCU (ICU experience does not count)
- Some level 1 or 2 experience preferred
- Travel experience preferred (not required)
Required Skills & Competencies
- EPIC electronic health record experience
- Ability to pass an online EKG telemetry competency assessment before starting
- BLS and NIH Stroke Certification required; ACLS preferred
- Ability to read and interpret EKG strips
- IV start skills
- Must be able to run IV drips such as heparin, nitroglycerin, amiodarone, Cardizem, insulin, etc.
- Must be fitted for N95 respirator prior to working on the HRRU unit (or PAPR if needed)
Floating & Scheduling
- Traveler will float at Premier’s discretion within specialty clusters
- Floating may include multiple campuses within 15 miles of main campus
- Must be available to work every other weekend and holidays
- Employer reserves the right to cancel up to 2 shifts per 13-week contract with notice
Unit Details
- Advanced Care Unit typical patients: heart failure, chest pain rule out, NSTEMI, post-procedure, COPD exacerbation, drug/alcohol overdose and withdrawal
- Daily average census: 31 patients
- Navy blue scrubs required
Required Licenses & Certifications
- Current Ohio RN license (primary source verification required)
- BLS (AHA only)
- NIH Stroke Certification (required within 12 months prior to start and updated annually)
- ACLS preferred (AHA only)
- Other certifications as applicable: PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM (depending on unit)
Required Documentation & Compliance
- 7-year criminal background check including SSN trace, national and county checks
- E-Verify and I-9 documentation
- Government-issued photo ID
- Physical exam within 2 years indicating fitness for duty
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray (annual update if past positive)
- Drug screening within 12 months (9 or 10 panel including marijuana) and lab work within 72 hours of contract signing
- Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season
- Respirator medical clearance and fit testing
- Skills checklist updated within 1 year
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam within 2 years
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam within 1 year or completed within 72 hours of contract signing (3 attempts max)
- References: 2 professional references within 2 years (1 must be manager/supervisor/charge RN) or employment verification if references unavailable
Additional Notes
- Prior travel experience is preferred but not required
- Traveler is first to float and may be assigned to various units as needed
- Travel nurses are not eligible for employee incentives
- Employer reserves the right to cancel agreement with 2 weeks’ notice without penalty
