Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (MS/Tele) - North Carolina, Winston Salem

Employment Type

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Orthopedics (highest required specialty experience)
  • Prior travel experience not required (1st time travelers accepted with EPIC experience)

Shift and Scheduling

  • 12-hour day shifts
  • 36 or 48 hours per week options available
  • Every other weekend required (if calling out on a weekend, must make up that time on a weekend)
  • Float requirement: Must be willing to float to other med-surg units as needed
  • Block scheduling options available (e.g., Fri/Sat/Sun or Sat/Sun/Mon)
  • No Return to Office (RTO) allowed after booking or onsite; max 7 days RTO allowed for auto offer
  • No holiday RTO approved

Patient Population and Unit Details

  • Average daily census: 37 patients
  • Unit beds: 39
  • Patient types: Orthopedic, Neuro spine, Med-surg, Post-surgical
  • Fast-paced unit requiring strong pain management skills for ortho and spine patients

Nurse-to-Patient Ratio

  • Typically 5-6:1, can flex to 7:1 in extreme cases

Required Skills and Certifications

  • Skills: IV start, telemetry monitoring
  • Certifications: BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support), NIH Stroke Certification
  • Must pass EKG competency testing prior to start
  • Preferred: ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), Charge Nurse experience, Level I Trauma experience

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in North Carolina
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 2 years of Orthopedics experience, including experience within the last year
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Proficient in IV start and telemetry monitoring
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Additional Requirements

  • Must be willing to float to other med-surg units as needed
  • Must comply with all facility-specific orientation and training requirements
  • Must complete required health screenings and immunizations (including TB test, flu vaccination or exemption, Hepatitis B, MMR, Varicella)
  • Drug screening within 6 months of start required
  • Background checks and education verifications required as per travel agency standards
  • Photo ID and badge photo required prior to start
  • Completion of facility-specific mandatory education and compliance training required

Patient Care Notes

  • COVID-19 patients are no longer cohorted; care provided on all units except ICU
  • Fast-paced environment with orthopedic and spine patients requiring attentive pain management

This position is ideal for RNs with orthopedic experience looking for a travel contract in a fast-paced med-surg/telemetry unit with a focus on orthopedic and neuro spine patients. Prior travel experience is not mandatory, but EPIC experience is required for first-time travelers. Flexibility in scheduling and floating is essential.
