Description
Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Circulator role with experience in multiple specialties including Orthopedics (Trauma, Joints, Sports Medicine, Shoulders) and Robotic Surgery (DaVinci).
- Weekday shifts preferred: 12-hour shifts, Monday to Friday, 6:30 AM to 7:30 PM.
- Call required: Maximum 10 calls per contract, mostly fewer; call hours after 7:00 PM to 6:30 AM and weekends.
- Weekend shifts: Call only, 24-hour coverage on Saturday or Sunday.
- Possible float to 2nd floor Outpatient ORs.
- Must have Level 1 experience.
- Preferred experience: Conscious sedation and scrub skills.
- Required skill: Circulate.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio.
- Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year.
- Experience with Orthopedic Trauma and Level 1 Trauma patients.
- Circulate skills required.
- Experience working with Epic electronic health record system.
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Certifications & Competencies
- Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA Instructor/Provider or RQI accepted.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred - AHA Instructor/Provider or RQI accepted.
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required prior to start.
- Unit-specific competency exams required.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (with some unit exceptions).
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required annually.
- State RN license verification required within 30 days of start.
- NURSYS verification required for RNs.
Background & Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including SS trace, counties lived/worked, nationwide check, sex offender registry, and motor vehicle record if driving is part of the job.
- FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 1 year of start using specific Ohio codes. New fingerprinting required if break in service exceeds 90 days or results are older than 1 year.
- Education accreditation confirmation required for nursing degree from accredited programs (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA).
- Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending at start.
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring required.
- Employment application and skills checklist required.
- Two professional references required, including at least one from a manager or formal leadership.
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
- Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive. TB questionnaire required in lieu of annual TB test renewal.
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12).
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella: 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer; boosters required if low titer and no proof of vaccines.
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemption allowed with documentation.
- Hepatitis B: Titer or 3-vaccine series; signed declination acceptable.
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31); mask required if declining.
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene). New travelers cannot start with drug screen pending.
- COVID vaccination not required but strongly recommended; proof of primary vaccination collected if available.
Additional Information
- Dress code and hand hygiene policy must be reviewed and signed.
- Confidential Fraud Waste Abuse and Compliance Reporting Mechanism form required.
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually.
- Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and acknowledged annually.
- NIH Stroke Certification may be required depending on unit assignment.
This position is ideal for experienced OR RNs with strong circulating skills and a background in orthopedic and robotic surgeries, looking for a travel contract in Ohio.
