Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (MS/Tele) - Travel/Contract

Location: Columbus, Ohio

Job Description

  • Work on a Med Surg Oncology unit with 12-hour day/night rotating shifts. Shift assignments may vary every 4 weeks based on staffing needs.
  • Oncology experience preferred but not required.
  • Patient care includes:
    • Continuous cardiac monitoring related to chemotherapy administration
    • Care for patients with soft tissue malignancies receiving diagnostics, chemotherapy, and symptom management
    • Symptom management related to disease progression or treatment
    • Management of comorbidities
  • Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention.
  • Equipment used includes B450 monitors, GE telemetry system, bladder scanner, Alaris pumps, and Stryker beds.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Ohio
  • Minimum 2 years of Med Surg / Telemetry experience, with at least some experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Experience with EPIC electronic health record system
  • Interpretation of dysrhythmias
  • Accessing ports
  • Arterial line management
  • Blood product administration
  • Central line care/management
  • PICC line management
  • IV start
  • Assist with chest tube insertion/removal
  • High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) management
  • Interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs)

Certifications & Compliance Requirements

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA provider or instructor accepted
  • Background checks including 7-year criminal background, FBI/BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific)
  • Education accreditation verification from accredited nursing programs (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required prior to start
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
    • TB questionnaire
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccines or positive titers
    • Hepatitis B titer or vaccine series (declination acceptable)
    • Varicella vaccines or positive titer (medical exemptions reviewed)
    • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
  • Annual review and acknowledgment of dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, and compliance policies
  • Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually

Additional Information

  • Must complete Ohio BCI & FBI fingerprinting with specific codes prior to start; fingerprinting results must be current within 1 year or renewed if there is a break in service over 90 days.
  • Candidates may be required to provide proof of fingerprinting completion.
  • Two professional references required, including at least one from a manager or formal leadership role.
  • Employment application and skills checklist required.

Work Environment

  • Rotating 12-hour shifts (days and nights)
  • Patient acuity includes oncology and complex medical-surgical needs
  • Emphasis on infection control and patient safety

This position is ideal for experienced RNs with strong Med Surg and telemetry skills, EPIC proficiency, and a preference or openness to travel assignments. Oncology experience is a plus but not mandatory.
