Description
Job Opportunity: Transplant Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN)
Location: Indianapolis, Indiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Overview
- Specialty: Transplant OR RN
- Focus: Abdominal transplants including Kidney, Pancreas, Liver, Intestinal/Multi-visceral
- Pediatric transplants are not included for this role
- Float requirement: Yes, multi-specialty covering all surgeries
- Call requirement: Yes, 40-60 hours per 6-week period
- Shift options:
- 8 and 10 hour shifts (40 hours/week)
- 3 twelve-hour shifts (36 hours/week)
- 4 twelve-hour shifts (48 hours/week)
- Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Indiana
- Minimum 2 years of transplant nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Unit Information
- Facility type: Short-Term Acute Care
- Charting system: Cerner
- Parking: Free
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
- Background checks including criminal, sex offender, education verification, and others as required
- Certifications: BLS (AHA or RQI accepted), ACLS, PALS, NRP, CHEMO, TNCC, NIH Stroke, and others as applicable to the unit
- Competency exams including medication/pharmacology and unit-specific competency
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 12 months (specific approved respirators required)
- Immunizations and titers:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (preferred but not required)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required for flu season
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months
- Color blind exam (Ishihara or equivalent) with 100% minimum score
- References: Minimum 2 from recent employment with appropriate supervisory titles
- Employment application with full work history and explanations for gaps over 30 days
- Skills checklist within 12 months and annually updated
Additional Notes
- Locals with permanent Indiana residence accepted but will have different pay considerations (not included here)
- Pending licenses accepted if valid at start
- Must complete mandatory facility-specific orientation and compliance forms prior to start
- Must complete required IU Health mandatory modules if applicable (noted for other disciplines)
This role is ideal for experienced transplant OR RNs looking for a travel contract in a high-acuity transplant environment with a strong focus on abdominal organ transplants.
